Anybody heard any new news on the .338 bullets? anybody, anybody, Eric? , anybody, anybody?. LOL

Given how back-ordered they are on regular product deliveries, I can't imagine they will get the 338s out anytime before Christmas or the new year.

Emailed Bryan about a month ago regarding that and a couple of other items. Their hands are tied waiting for the custom machine parts for the .338's. He's hoping late summer. But my guess would be next spring...hopefully. I wouldn't plan on them for this season anyway. I'm waiting too...working on getting parts to Kirby for a 338AX that I would like to shoot the Berger 300g .338 out of.

We are getting closer. Jmden had the most current information. The jacket and bullet tooling is done and ready to go. We have roughly 70% of the machine components in our shop. The items we lack are the main structrual supports.

These main support should be delivered later this month or the first part of next month. Once these items arrive we can start the assembly of the machine. This should not take very long as we have been getting everything ready in anticipation of receiving these main support pieces.

Once the machine is assembled we will have a debug period which is impossible to predict. The conclusion of this debug period will be bullets coming off the press at which time I will post the message I have been eager to post for some time now.

Eric

Rumor mill has the bc at 0.9+

if that's eveb ckise it would turn my RUM in to and Edge, but guess what it would to to the Edge.

Some times ya just can't keep up.

If the folks at Berger make a 338 bullet with a BC of 0.9 which can be magazine fed in a 338 RUM or Edge they should be burned at the stake. That would require witchcraft.

Bryan's book has sketches and predicted g7 and g1 bc's for the new Berger .338's. There are 3 300g .338 versions in the book. The VLD has a predicted g1 bc of .914--chew on that for awhile...--and a g7 bc that some would consider a not too bad if it was a g1 number! The form factor numbers are off the charts. There's a hybrid 300g with what looks like a combo secant/tangent ogive and another that appears to be a tangent ogive. Three 300g's to choose from. I hope they get the VLD out first...

For the sake of clarity it is important to point out that the design of a bullet and what is actually produced can be (and often is) different. The nature of the EDM process and other complications with manufacturing cause this difference.

We will do everything we can to match Bryan's design. There is in fact a possibility that the actual BC will be higher. Until the bullet can be shot and measured these numbers are estimates. They are accurate estimates based on the design but we'll see how close we can get to it.

Eric

I've been wanting to build an Edge for a while now, and every time I hear about this new bullet design it makes me want one even more. It sounds like this new design could become the new standard in .338 cal LR loads. Does anyone know what twist rate will be required to stabilize this bullet. Hart offers the .338 barrels in both 1/10" and 1/9". I know alot of Edges have been built on the 1/10" twist, but I want to buy the barrel that will shoot this bullet the best. What do you guys think of the 1/9" twist for the new Berger?
