im lookin to set up/buy a long range rig and im looking for the best out of the box option in 300 win mag under 2G. So far i've been looking at the tikka tactical, remington sendero, sako 75. Any other options would be appreciated as im just getting into this long range scene. the resaon for throwing in the sako is because i already own one, the others i would have to buy. I have been told to go with european make due to the fact that the steel is of much better quality, any truth to this?? look forward to any replies. thanks

The Sendero would be a great choice, but also look at the savage 110fp. With the savage you would have to chuck the factory stock and get a new one, but savages shoot very well.

+1. He beat me to it. The new 110fp's have a full bedded stock and are very nice. All savage heavy barrel rifles are great out of the box.

All the manufacturers are soooo far behind Savage in 'out of the box' accuracy, I'm not sure why you would want any another brand.

ah... because there are better rifles out there lol! Just giving you a hard time :)

Rather than spending 2 g on a rifle that is factory, why not get an action and have a good smith fix 'er up to what you really want for around 1500???

Remington or savage action and put a 320 dollar barrel, 150 chamber job, 75 bedding, 300 stock, or just get a Lawton for about a grand with trigger and your still well under 2 g with a much much better rifle.

Check out this site: Custom Actions

I would go with Sendero. They have a great stock and most are tack drivers out of the box with little to no work on them required... and they are a lot purdier than a Savage. The 700 action is the easiest action to find bases, rings, stocks, etc for. When you burn out the barrel you still have a great platform to work from with the action and stock. When I burn out my Sendero barrel I'll sent the rifle to a gunsmith to get the action blueprinted, etc., and have a custom match grade barrel put on it and I'll have a semi custom rifle that should shoot right there with the best of the customs with some good smithing. You might possibly skim bed the stock, but before you do just shoot it and see how it does. No need to fix it if it aint broke.

I would suggest trying to find an original Sendero. You can sometimes find them NIB or slightly used on gunbroker. The the newer SFII has a wide beavertail stock and very thick palm swell. Maybe you might like that but I dont. The SFII also has a factory trigger set for about 3 1/2 lbs and requires a smith to adjust it. You could spend another $250 and get a Jewel trigger and still be well under $2K. I'm assuming your $2K for a rifle does not include glass.

One other thing... If you want a true looooong range rifle, as in 1K plus for hunting, the 300 RUM will serve you much better than the 300 WM.

Good shooting and welcome to LRH.

Go look at the LRH classifieds, seriously there are some great deals to be had on rifles and glass.
