The first day was basically a wash for hunting since you can't hunt on the same day of the flight, so we got camp situated and prepared for the following day's adventure.
This was our ride to the remote spot.
This was home for the 7 days in the field.
The following day we were up @ 4:30am and on the trail by 5:30.
This area consists of a river bottom and steep mountain walls on each sides.
We walked the river glassing for browsing bears working over the green grass as they are coming out of hibernation.
We spotted 6 different black bears by 3:00 pm and then our luck changed for the better.
After glassing a mountain side we had earlier walked by, I spotted THE Brown Bear of a lifetime.
My buddy here is pointing to the snow bank the bear was bedded in.
The bear was sleeping 680 yards away and had no clue we were there.
We both felt confident in our shooting ability at that distance, but off my buddy went to close the gap to ensure the bear would not be lost.
30 minutes into his stalk, the bear got up, streched and walked to the large snow field, scooped out a fresh hole and went back to sleep.
My buddy made an excellent stalk and was with in 75 feet of the bear and was unaware that the bear had relocated.
The bear must of heard him moving through the jungle of brush and Devils Club.
He relocated back to the first snow bank which gave my buddy a 160 yard shot.
The rifle cracked, the bear spun and was heading down the mountain at an amazing speed.
I was confident it was a good hit, but found zero blood or hair in the snow bank.
After closer examination, the bullet had struck a tree limb and had deflected off course.
Truely a bear of a lifetime.
He was a big boy!!!
After the excitement we started the 8 mile hike back to camp.
10:05pm we spot the 9th black bear of the day.
My turn!
I made a clean shoulder shot on this boar. He went 6'-8" and has a 18 1/4" skull.
I was shooting my 338 Edge with the 300gr SMK. He was done by the time he stopped rolling down the mountain.
We arrived back in camp at 2:30 am and was totally out of gas.
A couple of quick polish dogs and into the tent we went.
I was awoken at 10:00am to what sounded like a dog drinking water out of a bowl .
I grabbed the 10mm and looked outside the tent to a black bear helping himself to the water we boiled our dogs in .
The following day was my buddies turn again.
We hunted hard all day and around 7 pm we spotted a shooter for him.
He made a great stalk and made a lean shot on this beautiful dry sow.
She was 5'-8" and had a 16 1/2" skull.
He was shooting a 300 Win Mag with the 210gr Bergers.
Both bullets performed excellent on this hunt.
After all the skinning and packing, we had a day to recooperate before the flight out.
