I've gone through my first two 4 oz. bottles of KG-1 and KG-12 and these products kick butt.

KG-1 is the best carbon/powder fouling cleaner I've used to date, and I'm not green behind the ears.

KG-12 is a potent copper removing product. I use it following the KG-1 product.

Neither product is harmful to the bore, like the ammonia-based copper removing solutions can be if left in the bore too long. I know this from first hand experience with the ammonia based solutions. Rotted out one chrome moly bore and even inflicted some damage on a stainless Lilja barrel with the Barnes CR10 solution in years gone by. Barnes initial labeling on this product when neglected to inform the user that the product should be removed from the bore within 15 minutes - maximum. All the instruction on the bottle said back then was that the product was completely safe to gun barrel steel. Well I learned that was bogus the hard way.

If you need to clean your bores quickly, I can in good conscience give these two KG products the thumbs up.

Over the past two weeks I've been cleaning my bores repetitively during the process of applying and treating the bores with Gun Juice. By the way, the Gun Juice drastically reduces copper fouling. You can shoot more shots with less fouling and clean the bores much more quickly.

Back to KG-1 & KG-12. In order to apply the Gun Juice, I clean the bore down to bare steel with KG-1 followed by KG-12 followed by application Gun Juice, shoot once - reclean - Gun Juice, shoot once - reclean - Gun Juice, etc., repeating the cleaning and shooting cycle 20 times in stainless barrels. I've cleaned my bores on 4 different rifle barrels about 90 times during the past two weeks while applying the Gun Juice. So it's with confidence that I recommend the KG-1 and KG-12 products.

FYI, I am not affiliated with KG products in any way. I restocked my supply this week and ordered the products from Midway. These products can be shipped by US mail, which is important if you live in Alaska, whereas some cleaning solutions can not be shipped US Postal Service.

Cheers!

I might have to try it. Have you had any experience with Pantheon products (aka Hoppes Elite) and how they compare? Depending on the rifle and the amount of time and effort, sometimes I've used those and they seem to work fairly well, but I'll also resort to ammonia-based cleaners, especially out at the range.

Yes. I was using the Hoppes Elite Gun Cleaner for carbon and powder removal prior to the KG-1. The KG-1 makes the Hoppes Elite seem like distilled water - by comparison.

You know the black carbon fouling that forms on the exterior of the case neck on fired cartridges? I used to wet a patch with Hoppes Elite and use the patch to remove those carbon stains off the case neck prior to case resizing. The Hoppes Elite would remove some of the stain but not the darker tougher stains. Do the same with KG-1 and it will take the carbon off straight down to the brass - right now. No comparison.

I've used a number or other cleaning products over the years (40 years). WipeOut foaming bore cleaner works very well if you can afford to leave the foam sit in the bore a couple hours or even overnight. But when you want to clean the barrel right now - these two KG products work quickly & efficiently.

I have used any number of different combinations of products over the last 5 years or so for cleaning both powder and carbon fouling from my various rifles and pistols (montanna extreme, Sweets, Hoppes, Shooter's choice, Butches Bore Shine), and I agree that the combination of products discussed here: KG-1 and KG-12 are the best that I have used to date.

A FYI, in case you weren't aware. KG-12 will not turn cleaning patches blue-green while it removes copper fouling. The solution itself is yellow, and when it's removing copper, the yellow patch will turn a little darker yellow-brownish tint. So if it failed to work for you because you didn't observe blue-green patches, then that would explain it.

Copper jacket material is copper jacket material. If it came out of my bores slicker than snot, I'd bet money it doesn't only work well on my bores.

You want to see blue-green patches as confirmation the copper is being removed, you'll need to use an ammonia-based bore cleaner.

Yes, I'm aware the patches don't turn blue.

I tested the effectiveness of KG-12 on 3 or 4 rifles by first cleaning with it according to the instructions (after cleaning for powder) and then applying a traditional ammonia based copper solvent to see if patches came out blue, which would indicate that copper still exists in the bore. I made sure not to use a brass jag which might give false indications. I found evidence that a considerable amount of copper remained in the bore after using KG-12.

I've used almost everything on the market for copper fouling. I now use only two products: Montana Extreme Copper Killer (formerly 50BMG) and Wipeout.

Hey, if KG-12 is working for you then keep on using it. Maybe I just got a bad batch of it.

Yeah, who's to say. I've used a bunch of other products over the years also. The KG-12 worked both quickly and efficiently for me. I'm not trying to sell the stuff. Just sharing some info. like you. Good shooting to ya!

I'd also have to agree that the KG-1 and KG-12 are the best I've ever used, and believe me I REALLY HATED to admit having the same opinion as Phorwath. :^)

I think I've tried them all over the years and have been using WipeOut for the last 5 years or so just because up until I found the KG products, I thought it worked the best. Even recently tried the Montana Extreme, I thought I had given myself brain damage the first time I opened the bottle - **** that stuff is STRONG SMELLING, I gave that **** away quick! Not near as good as the KG stuff and to use it safely, so as not to have any deformed kids or brain damage, I think a guy would be wise to only use it after putting on a fully self contained breathing apparatus suit. The KG products don't hardly have a smell, either that or I fried my nose after opening that bottle of Montana Extreme.

Anyway, a thumbs up for the KG-1 and KG-12!

Now that didn't hurt too bad..., did it? :)

Others really like Bore Tech Eliminator. I'd like to hear someone sound in that has compared the two. It's about the only other product I'm inclined to try, but as well as KG-1 and KG-12 work for me, I can't see spending the money - - - yet.

I always used boretech eliminator and I thought it was amazing stuff cause it would show copper where the other copper remouvers had stoped showing any sings of copper(wipe-out cr-10 sweets7.62). I read all the stuff about KG-12 and decided to get some and try it out at home, so I did a home test I put liquid of boretech and KG-12 in 2 seperat cups weighed 2 160gr accubond and started the test, after 1hr-KG12 remouved 1.5grains
after 7hr-KG12 remouved 5.5grains
after 24hr-KG12 remouved 7grains and boretech eliminator after 1week remouved absolutely NOTHING!!!!!!!!!! All i can say is wow. Now maybe boretech works better when the copper is left in the bore from the bullet, but remouvig copper from a bare bullet it did nothing, while KG12 freaked me out , that good!
