So how else is trying to buy primers, I have been on backorder for 3 months at cabelas. I think our ammo manufacturers are really letting us down on this one.

I also have an order on backorder with them too. Locally they tell me that it will be the end of the year before they have any primers in any amount. They say the company reps say they are running 3 shifts and can not get caught up yet. My bet is they are loading and selling ammo and make more doing that. It is a crime what they are asking for primers on gun broker. I am just happy I am not out yet.

Exactly they make much more on factory ammo then they do on components, they really are hurting their market base I wish they would see that. I haven't shot in 4 months due to the fact I can get ammo. Most factory loads are a waste of money and barrel life in my rig so the end result is I am being pushed out of the sport due to lack of supplies and ammo companies trying to force factory ammo on me

The cost of the ammo is a turn off too. I found a box of ammo at one gun store at about $50.00 a box and another store had the same at $80.00, Lots of taking advantage going on. I am steadily culling who I will do business with.
Someone suggested going to gun shows and looking for primers. I have not tried that yet because my bet is they will be way up there in price and I am not that desperate yet.

The mftrs are cranking them out as fast as they can. Almost all of Federals went priority to military contracts. Hopefully they will be caught up later this year. Plus with obama it started a "run" on components and ammo. Everyone is buying everything that they can find.
I know guys who have 25K of primers (one type).
Guess, when they come back on the market, no one will be buying after the first 30 days as the hoarders have a 10 yrs supply and everyone else will get 1-2K and be ok.

Guess they need to hoard an extra barrel or two also. I am sure your right about it going on though. That thinking can get out of hand, heck what am I saying it already has.

Its the same thing with powder. Last week I sent an email to Hodgdon's, telling them I can't find their products anywhere - what's going on?

I have been toying with the idea to take a year off. What would happen if no hunting licenses were sold. People just got fed up with it and quit for awhile. Obama would be happy? Let's think about it how much revenue is create by the pittman-robertson act? 18%(please correct me if I am wrong, my source wasn't 100% positive of the number but it is around there) is tacked on to any hunting or fishing related item. Not to mention the money generated from the licenses. Of course we could look at the over population of game animals. What kind of crop destruction could it cause and vehicle collisions would go up drastically. What would happen to insurance costs? All the people trying to make a buck off us would be selling for alot less than they hoped when the demand vanished. The enviro-nazi's would be happy until Obama started taxing their tofu.
Unfortunately alot of good people who make their living at it would no longer be there after we went back to our sport. The only thing we can do is choose who we buy from and maybe shoot alittle less.

I don't see this as an Obama issue, I could be mistaken but no legislation has gone through to change the availability of anything. Even if it were taxed I don't have a problem with that, like you say there is money made of licenses and it should be that money goes to upkeep and protect our hunting and fishing areas so taxes and fees aren't really an issue with me.

A guy at our club got an email response from Hogdgon. They are blaming the hoarders for the shortage. They even go so far as to warn of the later consequences that hoarding will cause. They claim the small dealers will go out of business because everyone will have a multi year supply and no one will be buying any components next year.
BTW, Our Cabella's and several online sellers have had LR primers in stock in the last few weeks. They limited sales to 1K in store and 5k online per buyer.

Within a year of the potential of Obama being elected the shortage started. People hoarding ammo? How can we blame it on the war when all primers and components are short. I don't see to many magnum rifles in our military supplies, I could be mistaken. Do I think he is directly causing it, No. But the comments he has spoken are the reason so many people are hoarding ammo. I think it will be unfortunate the damage it will cause once the hoarding stops. Small shops will be the ones hit the hardest. I am not an Obama supporter, his views are not mine and I will leave it at that.

No need to clarify mate, hope i didn't come off wrong and I just noticed no short coming of factory ammo however I noticed no primers. Companies make more money off ammo I can reload 20 rounds of ammo and spend about 20 dollars, or I can buy it assembled for 50. That was the connection i made it may be an incorrect one.....but that is coming from someone who doesn't know the real extent of people hoarding
This is not a hoarding problem. If it were, the components would be making it to suppliers, and then bought up by the "hoarders". The problem is that even the wholesale distributors are not seeing any primers or powder make it to their doors for resale. I know od one wholesale distributor that has not seen a Federal primer in over 6 months. So, the product is not there to even be "hoarded". It is my understandung that no Federal or CCi primers are leaving the wharehouse. It also seems that very little Hodgdon powder is being sent out.
I think we should all contact the NRA to see if they can bring some pressure to bear to get some of this stuff released to the public.

I was chalking it up to people like my friends(don't typically shoot alot and have 3 times the amount I do) who have bought enough components for the rest of their lives and people selling on gunbroker trying to make a quick buck.
