6 Dasher or 6 x 47 Lapua Ackley ?

I have a 6mm bolt rifle slot without restriction approved by the police in England.

I plan to use it for foxing and shooting 300, 600 and longer if the chance arises.

I have had 6mmBR and 6 x 47 previously and would like something more special.

As a result I have a bunch of 6mmBR norma case and a bunch of 6.5 x 47 cases handy.

I have been offered a 308 bolt face BAT multishot action with 1 in 8 twist lilja striaght barrel .92 inch profile. ( Somebody cancelled his build) from stock.

I am considering either 6 Dasher or 6 x 47 lapua ackley

I know a dasher is proven with more loads about but the 6 x 47 lapua will feed better.

My question to all you is

Are there any other caliber in 6mm (that fits a 308 bolt face) that I should consider ?

I have no issues with relaoding, neck turning and necking up or down.

I have not had the pleasure to shoot or own either one yet. I do not believe that you can go wrong either way. It looks like to me there are two decisions. One is 100(105 or 108)gr bullets or 115 gr bullets. I think that the Lapua might be better suited for the heavier bullets, but the barrel may not last as long. The dasher has really given me the bug to build another gun. A little food for thought.

Had you though about the 243 Winchester ?

It has more powder capacity,Is a 308 necked down and has a proven accuracy record.

For longer distances "More is Better".

The 6mm PPC has the best track record for accuracy but is down on power from the 243.

Brass is easy to get and you can neck down 7/08 and 308 cases.

I know this doesn't help with the brass you already have but for 600 yards the 243 would
be better in my opinion.

If you are shooting fox, pretty sure that you do not want a 105 or a 115 bullet. My guess is you you will be in the 75-87 gr range.

With said, the standard 6x47 will run a 105gr at 3200 fps easily so the 75-87 grainers would be in the 3400 plus range, so do not see the need for an AI version considering cost with minimal gain as there are stock 6x47 dies. All you need to do is order the reamer with the correct freebore for the bullet weight you want to use.

I shoot the 6mmBRDX (BR Ack Imp with long neck) and it can run the 87 gr 3200 plus. I can run 105s at 3130. I do not like the short neck Dashers, and BRX type cases. I prefer the long necks, but no stock factory dies. Mine are custom from Neil Jones ($300 for custom FL size die w/shoulder bump bushings and micro seater)

To me depends on whether you want the hassle of custom dies or not. If the answer is no, then straight Dasher, BRX or standard 6x47. All of them are going to be way faster than needed. I would lean towards the standard 6x47.

For the distance you want, based on the brass you have on hand I would go with the "Long Dasher" or the 6mm-6.5x47 Lapua Improved

FWIW-I had one before I ever became the dealer.
I will be getting quite a few BWS's with this next shipment-It makes the SEB even more smooth.

6Rem AI would work for sure as well.

243 Win, 243 Win AI, 6-284, 6 Rem, 6XC (and some others I haven't mentioned) should all work for your goals.

I am leaning towards the 6mm Remington AI from what I have read. In England access to reloading supplies are limited. Can you advice what is the parent case of 6mm remington ? I think it is from a 7 x 57 roberts ? correct ?

The SEB coxial dealer www.foxfirearms.co.uk (Brian Fox) is also making aluminium ring base so that F-class shooter like me can use the rest on grass and shooting matt in addition to Concrete bench table

Can I be very frank when I had a 6BR a few years ago, I was just getting into reloading. I was not even 50% as metiulous as I am now. Neck turning sorting cases , experimenting with seating depths so on and so forth,

It seems like for UK shooting distance it is really quite difficult to beat an EFFICIENT cartridge like BR such accuracy for such little powder.

Last question

Is a 6 dasher is no more or less accurate than a 6BR. It just has slightly more powder capacity and can give up to 100 fps more than a standard BR ?

If so I am going back to a BR with 1 in 8 since my last BR was a second hand job with a 1 in 12

I have shot with a guy in two F class matches that is using a dasher. I believe he shot 593 out of 600 @ 1K. Yesterday, he shot 597 out of 600 @600yds. I would hate to see a 6 BR that was more accurate than the dasher this guy was shooting.
