Nikon makes a nice scope called the buckmasters in 4.5x14x40 and the 6x18x40 ,both
have side focus and the mill dot retical.

The first one is under $300.oo and the second is just over $350.oo.

Both are very clear and the 18 power has target turrents.

I am a big fan of sightron.....a SII would be a touch more 400 range but a few extra dollars on a scope will go a long way to getting hits, think of it as saving ammo

+1 on that. I have the Nikon Buckmaster 6x18x40 mild dot on my 25-06 and it does a great job for the price. Midway puts them on sale for $299 everyonce in a while. Mine tracks and holds zero great.

+1 I used to own a nikon buckmaster 6-18 fine plex and sold it with a rifle. It was used out to 1000 yards with the help of a 20MOA rail.

Last friday afternoon I was at the range using my 4.5-14x nikon buckmaster mil-dot and shot out to 1000 yards with it.

I can't complain about the nikon buckmasters I've had at all. $300 isn't cheap, and it isn't expensive. I also took my 4.5-14x buckmaster hunting last year and ended up getting a little "turned around" in the woods. I took some nasty spills stepping into knee and hip deep holes that couldn't be seen and the rifle & scope got slammed hard several times. Never fired a shot on that hunting trip, but when I got home I took it to the range it held it's zero after some real world abuse. It's a good solid scope and I feel like I can trust my life with it.

my 4-14x50 from wonder optics can reach 1000 yards on a flat base. it tracks true and glass is on par with the price point. I paid 300 for it new.

I would have to add another one for the Buckmaster 6-18x40. I have it on my 22-250 witht the "nikoplex" and have no complaints about it. I'm not a huge fan of there BDC retical though it looks like it might get in the way. That said I just bought a zeiss conquest 6.5-20x50 for my 300 win mag; and wow, money does buy good optics. So my advice is spend every cent you have budgeted on your scope.

I'm gonna jump on the 6-18 buck master band wagon too. It's hard to complain about what you get for all the more you have to give. You can find them on fleabay for less than $300 new.
