I'm having trouble with my pinnacle editing software so, I finally found some service on-line to make a montage of our Prairie dog hunt in South Dakota. We went down the 23 of April to my brother-in-law's. Believe it or not this was my first P.D hunt! I get easily excited as you can hear in the video
Between Nate, Eli and myself We took out around 100 P.D's. ranges were between 200 - 750yd. Both Nate and I have several confirmed kills at 750 yd!!! for some reason in the video clips where Nate says "Ya you got him" and you can't see a dog well, that was my first head shot and the still pix with me and the gun is the actual dog I shot in that hill. We walked up to confirm it and it was laying in the mouth of it's hole, so we pulled it out for the pix.
Most of the videos were of the closer shots as the wind was coming up when we started to do the 750yd shots and Nate thought it would be best for him to be behind a good spotting scope for making quick corrections.
We had a close encounter with a diamond back rattle snake. The wind was blowing about 12-14mph. We were walking up a grass hill to set up for our 750 yd shots. We both had our plugs in and I hear this thsthsthss sounds and I instantly stop and scan the area quickly. Even though I have never heard a rattler in the wild my instinct instantly knew what it was. sure enough not more than 3 or 4 feet to my right was a rattler coiled and ready to strike! The scary part is that Nate had just walked about a 1-1/2-2 feet to the right of me just a half minute before! Thankfully Nate didn't stop when he heard the noise. I'm guessing when he went past, the rattler hadn't had time to coil yet or Nate would have got it in the leg. The picture I took is exactly how I first saw him in the grass. This picture is after Nate shot him with his rifle ( boy it is challenging hitting a snake at close range with a high power rifle it took a couple shots to put him out.) Eli got the buttons. He was pretty tickled!
We got our daughter, Jessica her first .22 for her 10th birthday. We gave it to here on the day of our hunt. She was there in SD for a week and a half helping her aunt with a new baby.
All shots except the first are taken with a 6x47 Lapua. The first one was Eli's .22 cricket. Good rifles and equipment sure makes this easy and fun. Eli and I never missed a shot at the closer ranges. I had some misses at 750yd.
