I am looking for some help with picking a scope for my new Rem 700 XR 100 in 204 Ruger. I am planing on shooting varmints and target shooting. What do you guyS have on your rigs?

Thanks

You might consider a straight fixed power scope of about 8X or 10X. A fixed power scope will give you improved optics for less cost than a variable. A lot of people like the Super Sniper but I personally haven't ever tried it.

I have looked at the Leupold X12, It seems like a good fit. not sure yet.

Give a WO TAC. scope a good look at as it's in your price range and has a lot of bang for the buck.
4-14x50,side focus,tac.knobs with a positive adjust.,MOA reticle & 80 MOA internal adjustment,30mm 1 piece tube all covered with a Lifetime warranty.

On my XR100 that I re - chambered to 20 VarTarg I have a 6-20 Weaver GS and for field shooting I find that I generally leave it arround 12 and wind it up if circumstances permit. From the bench at 20 I have a wall hanger group of .084 so the Weaver works.

Thanks for getting back to me. How did you settle on the Weaver? And how long have you owned your XR? I have the 204 and a 308. I am looking foward to getting some range time in he next few weeks.

Thanks

Ed

I got my xr100 a couple of years ago. Wanted the best off the shelf rifle-action and I think the xr is it. I only fired a couple of boxes of factory 204 through it before having 16.5mm cut from the barrel to have it re chambered to the 20 VarTarg and that has been an exceptional re-build. The weaver again was the best scope in the price range with optics that my older eyes could make use of. I have used it to head shoot rabits at 200 plus yds after which body shots are the go. conditions here in New Zealand vary a lot in the field but the reticle is just right with a fine target dot. Mostly I use binos for spoting but finding a rabit in the scope over 12 power is a bit difficult but on a long shot allows me to crank it up a bit more. Brilliant rifle and glass combo.

Hi Von,

Thanks for that info. I'll let you know how these XR's proform and what scopes I will mount on the XR's in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks
