Can the short actions be milled out any to use the full capabilities of say the 6mm in the gun with proper bullet seatin ? To get my gun shooting I have to seat bullets too long to get into the mag now. I need maybe .125" more to feed proper.
Also would like to better use the long actions for my 280 ackley , can the be lenghtend to allow rhe same[Longer seater setting]?

The Wyatt's extended mag box will give you a little more room. The best fix, for both of your rifles, is to install a barrel, cut with a reamer made to your specs, for seating the bullet on the lands while fitting into the mag box.

You can get at least another .100" longer than the Wyatts box, by doing the following.

As with installing the wyatts box, you mill away some metal to the rear of the mag box recess, you can continue to mill away some more of this area. I don't have an action in front of me so I can not give a specific number but you need to stop before you enter the trigger housing cutout, cutting to that point would be bad.
You will then need to remove some of the metal above the area you just opened so that it is open to the bolt raceway. Then take a long mag box and form it to fit the new cutout by cutting and bending the rear folds of the box to fit. The bolt stop blade will then need to be shortened as with the wyatts.

The trouble doing it that way is that then the longer bullets set too deep into the cartridge to be still in the neck. The base of the bullet is into the taper not the neck doing it that way, I need just ~.125 more to keep bullets where they want to shoot. I think a Sako action is a little longer as would be better but i like Rem's

BTW I am shooting a 6mm rem and 100 grain bullets and if it was a 243 this may not be the trouble, the problem is the 6mm,7x57 etc even 220 swift is MAX for SA rems. I just don't se it any other way. Lke I said I had a Sako and beleive they make a action better suited to the mid length cartridges of that class.

You want the really easy answer................. yes

See my post above. It will add a solid .225" to your oal.

And why is that a problem??? Maybe you think seating the bullet .125" deeper reduces the powder capacity?? If so, do some calculations and figure out the area of taken up by a cylinder 6mm in diameter and .125" long......I think you will find you won't lose enough capacity to make any real difference........

no but by placing the pressure ring below the neck and into the shoulder area is not what i want either.Personally I feel the entire "push" should be on the heel of the bullet [bottom]and none on the bearing areas[walls/sides].

The Wyatts mag box and, Coyboys fix, will give you the additional length that you are looking for. If you've got your mind made up that the Sako is a better choice then go for it.
