Was wondering what everyone is getting for fps that has a 7mm RUM shooting 180 grain Berger VLD's. Just put some thru mine today with Retumbo powder. Got up to 88.5 grains of powder and the bolt just started sticking alittle bit, brass still looked fine, 4 shot group averaged 3120 fps

I do not own a 7mm RUM but have built a couple dozen of them for customers and did load development for those as well. Many of them were for the 180 gr Berger.

On average, 3100 fps was right on the money with what I have seen in the rifles I have built. Some a bit faster, some a bit less depending on barrel length but pretty close to what your getting.

That's kinda of interesting. I have got 2980 with a standard 7rm with no sticky bolt or pressure signs. I would lilke to test the actual pressure but can't afford the oehler 43. I'm sure I'm on the hot side but I'm only running about 68.3 grains of retumbo which is .3 grains over listed max. I once thought about going to the rum but with the numbers people are posting it really doesn't seem worth it.

Let me state that I was never looking for the top end of this chambering. I have no doubt at all that one could easily push over 3200 fps if they really wanted to push things with this chambering in a barrel of at least 27". Maybe faster.

I use one load and its proven very accurate in all of these rifles so I just keep loading that one load back up and if it meets my 1/2 moa accuracy requirement for the rifle, it sells.

For comparision however, I did have a customer that wanted to shoot the 200 gr ULD RBBT and I was able to get 3080 fps with that bullet in a 28" barrel out of the RUM with an upper level load.

I would say however that if your getting near 3000 fps with the 180gr in a 7mm Rem Mag, either you have a very long barrel or your pushing the pressures pretty hard and also have a very fast barrel.

opps I forgot that the rifle is a remington BDL stock nothing done to it 1-10 twist I hope it shoots the bergers ok, I havent got to put it on the range yet cant wait to range it and sum of those 1000 yrd shoots :)

Not quite apples to apples, but my buddy runs a 7mm rum. He shoots the 160 Acccubonds @ 2460fps. This is out of a factory Sako. He is using RL25, pushing it pretty hard, but no sticky bolt or split brass or anything like that. Took him a long time to get to this load, but it can be done.

2460 or 3460?
