I've never owned, or fired one, and I was wondering what I could expect from them? I'm considering a varmint/target model that they offer in 6.5 Creedmoor. That's assuming they actually get around to making them. I know they are notorious for putting up products on their website that they never get around to producing. My only other option for this round, or even a 6.5x47 Lapua, in a bolt action would to be custom. Thanks.

Not really, you can buy a savage 6.5x284 factory (Palma, BR or Fclass rifles) and set it back and rechamber to either the Creedmoor or 6.5x47.

They sell for about $950 (Northlander on www.savageshooters.com) and $175 for rechamber.

Saw a super nice custom 6br there for sale (PAHog was the seller)at $1200 with a 12 twist barrel and nice stock. Sell the barrel for $200-250 and buy new blank for $275 and chamber $175 and good to go with a complete custom rig. Or keep the barrel and just add another, as you can install/change them yourself with a simple barrel vise, wrench and go/ no go guages(under $100)

As for the Rugers, you will not see any of them on the firing line at serious comps. Enough said on that.

BH, i have to correct you about not seeing a Ruger from the firing line at a serious competition. i saw one in the garden next to the shooting range being used as a stake for a tomato plant.

Are you saying thats all there good for:D. I would go with rem or maybe a savage. why dose it have to be the 6.5?

ive got a ruger model 77 .44 mag and i like it pretty well. naver owned one in a bigger caliber but i would think they would be pretty good to.

I would have to say that all of the Ruger rifles that I have owned or know about
were very well made and looked very good, "BUT" they are not known for there accuracy.

Mostly it has to do with the angled recoil lug design. It is very hard to bed and get good
results.

But the pistols are a different story they are good looking ,strong and very accurate.

I have owned many Ruger pistols and liked and trusted every one of them.

Just my opinion

the only problem with the Ruger pistols is they're not long enough to make a good stake!

I don't have much confidence that Ruger rifles will shoot well although I had one of the old Varmit Swifts that did for some reason, but I have had good luck with some Redhawks/Super Redhawks, maybe just good luck on my part.

I'd trust my life to a Ruger but would not expect to win many touphies with it!! I'm sure Ruger makes some screamers but for the most part they are great hunting rifles.

I have owned and shot a number of Ruger rifles. They are great hunting guns! I am planning a Wyoming elk hunt next fall and I am already getting my guns ready for the hunt. On Thursday of this week I was out shooting two guns and trying to decide which one I would take on the hunt.

The two guns were both Ruger Mark II's. One a 7mm Rem Mag and the other a 300 WSM. Both are stainless steel with synthetic stocks. The 7mm Rem Mag is one of the best shooting guns that I own, and I own 5 Remingtons, and 2 Winchesters as well as a number of other Rugers.

My 300 WSM is very picky as to the load that it shoots well. It will shoot Barnes TSX bullets into 3/ 4 inch or less. It also shoots Berger 168 VLD's very well. Most other loads are not very good.

On the other hand my 7mm Rem Mag will shoot almost any load into less than 1 inch. I have worked up loads with 140 Barnes TSX, 160 Barnes TSX, 140 Nosler Accubond's and 160 Nosler Accubonds, that will all shoot into .5 or less.

I will agree that if you are developing a target rifle or a long range hunting rifle to shoot game at 500yds or more a Ruger may not be my first choice.

My Rugers feed very well. I know that if I have to take a second shot I can count on the next round to chamber. I have had two time when my Reminton 700 BDL failed to feed and I pulled the trigger on an empty chamber. My Reminton 700 BDL is a 7mm SAUM and I know that the short round is more difficult to feed.

So I will carry my Rugers and leave my Reminton at home.

Well, it would appear my thoughts were right on the money and I'll go back to finishing my build. I figured for $700 I can pick up a barrel and get it installed on the FN/Win 70 action I have sitting around. But the thoughts of spending $700 on a complete rifle caught my attention.
