I have a Wby Mark V (non-fluted barrel) and am having trouble coming up with a load to shoot the Barnes 168 grain Tipped TSX. I have been shooting 116 grains of 50BMG and 165 grain AccuBonds. This load shoots great (1/2 in @100), but only when the cartridge is too long to fit in the mag. When I seat the bullet to fit in the mag, the groups open up to 1 1/2 inches or more. I will primarily use the gun for hunting and I have had good luck with the Barnes X bullets in the past. I would like to have a good load to shoot the 168grain Tipped Barnes X bullet. Does anyone shoot this bullet and what load works best?

I used Retumbo and a fed 215 gm primer in mine with great accuracy. The retumbo will give good velocity but watch it close on the charge weight. Start well under max and work up slow. It goes from happy to sticky bolt very fast.

I will also add, I have and do own many Wby rifles. I have had two that just won't shoot the TSX's. Meaning, they copper foul in 8 to 12 rounds and produce very poor groups. But thay all seem to like the Bergers.

Part of the problem is that weatherby rifles have a long throat so inorder to get the bullet close to the lands you have to make the loads very long.

Yeah, just like the Remington ulta mags right. With the Wby's I load them as lond as the mag box will allow and they shoot fine.
