Gonna build up the old 10/22

Have had a 10/22 around since about 1991 and it's always been stock and was just a part time fun gun.

Recently I got the urge to update it a little so I ordered a new GM 18" fluted blue barrel, most of the internal goodies like Volquartsen hammer etc,, already got a new mag release, new PC bolt handle and recoil rod, buffer, and other assorted internal goodies. I'll modify my bolt release for auto and I should be receiving the new Revolution Yukon stock in a few days. Got a good scope for up top and should be receiving about a dozen assorted boxes of ammo in a couple of days to try to see what she likes. Get some studs on the stock, mount the Harris w/Podloc and have some fun.

Just like with any other new gun I can't wait to get it out to the range and see what the little pipsqueak can do.

Sounds NICE! Im sure it'll suprise you at how well a custom built rig like yours will shoot. Even a .22 properly built will shoot quite the group! Keep us updated on how it goes

I'm sure hoping it's a shooter when I get done. The stock barrel did a pretty good job and killed a lot of grouse and rabbits.

I'm hoping to get the old clover leaf groups to shrink up into little bitty ragged holes. We'll see

I'm just hoping it'll shoot some of the cheaper stuff but knowing my luck it'll have an expensive taste, but accuracy is the goal so I'll just feed it what it wants and have fun.

What ranges do you think you'll be shooting ACCURATELY? And I know what you mean...my 10/22 gobbles down Remington Yellow Jackets like its nothing. Talk about expensive taste!

I'm shooting for around 1" at 100 yards but I realize that's optimistic given I'm not going the full route on trigger group stuff but we'll see. If it's promising then I think it'll be time to invest in a Kidd trigger group and some more KIdd or Valquartsem goodies.

Depending on what ammo it ends up liking it won't be like shooting cheap bulk stuff but if it's a tack driver then it's gonna eat as good as I can find food for it. I've got Eley, Wolf and some other top ammo coming for the testing as well as the MiniMags etc. The ammo is limited by what the Bentz chamber will accept and what the gun likes. We'll see.

If it's what I want at 100 then I'll do some field data work and drop testing and see what she'll do with some dialing. No reason it shouldn't get me out to 300 or so as long as conditions are perfect. Even if conditions are not great it'll be a good platform for practicing in wind etc. etc.

At least I'll have one more fun gun to use while the big stuff is cooling when I'm out playing. And I can tell you this, the grouse and rabbits had better keep their heads hidden this fall. And this summer the sage rats are gonna take a beating also.

That's what mine liked. It also liked one version of the Eley High Velocity (blue box with a rabbit on it) but not other types of Eley. If it was cheap it wouldn't shoot.

Each type of ammo has a different coating on it so you have to run maybe 10 rounds down the barrel to get it "conditioned" to that brand of ammo before shooting a group.

Yup, I'd planned on 10-15 foulers for each different type I try.

Got most of the stuff in and got it all put together for now.
GM 18" Blue fluted .920" barrel
Modified the stock bolt release plate for auto release
VQ Extractor
VQ Hammer (Stock pull was 6# 7oz, now it's 2# 2oz)
Extended mag release
PC Titanium Bolt rod and recoil rod assy.
Yellowjacket buffer
Gunsmither V-Block replacement
Revolution Yukon Fire and Ice stock

The scope and mount is what was on it while stock. Not sure what I'm gonna do about the scope and mount yet, but she'll shoot like it is for now.

Waiting on a box from back east with bipod, podloc, swivels set and the remaining boxes of ammo for testing.

If it'll shot as is I may not go any farther with the mods but we'll see what happens after initial testing. A Kidd trigger group sure would be sweet.

Get some good weather, the rest of the ammo and it'll be time to go see what the "pipsqueak" can do.
