I offer this as an endorsement for SSGunsmithing.

I just returned from a couple fantastic weeks spent with Nathan Dagley and his family. Nate was kind enough to allow me to come visit to learn something of the gunsmithing trade. I was made as welcome as family and treated as an honored guest. Nathans wife, Elizabeth is a superb cook! I'm afraid I couldn't help being something of a glutton.

Between admiring Nathans work and feeding myself to immobility, Nate and I conducted experiments to determine which calls on the market are the most effective at frightening coyotes out to ranges we deign to shoot at. I am happy to report, nearly every call we tried had the desired effect of moving the coyotes away from us.

On to the endorsement: To say I am impressed by Nate and his work is a gross understatement. We shot his latest caliber, the 300Jazz (I believe). This rifle / cartridge easily attained 1/3 moa out to 750 without load development, and in far less than ideal conditions. Nate is an avid and skilled gunsmith. He truly loves what he does and strives for perfection in his work. When shopping for your next smith, don't overlook this modest man. I guarantee you'll be pleased.

Nate, thanks for the great time! I imagine I've embarassed you a bit here. Ha!

I'll second that endorsement.

I never spent time with Nate in person, but have spent allot of time on the phone with him. He is modest for sure.

I have had barreled actions in my shop from that came from him, so I can attest to his craftsmanship.

I have sent customers to him without hesitation, and they have been completely satisfied.

Keep up the good work Nate.

I to would like to take the chance to brag on the professionalism and ability of this man. He just completed a 7wsm for me that has by far surpassed my expectations. It was really great to work with such a honest and sincere person that was not affraid of going the extra mile for his customers!

Thank you very much Nathen,

Levi

+1 more for Nate. He's top notch; not only does he build fine rifles, but will take the time to discuss any gun build questions you may have, so he can build you exactly what you want.

I am unimpressed.
I called Nathan the 8th or 9th of January and inquired about having him time and attach a bolt handle for a Phoenix action and how long it would take. Nathan said it would be 2 weeks. So I mailed the receiver bolt and handle the 9th of January. I still have not seen it that is one month today.
When someone gives me a time frame I expect them to deliver in that time frame.

James,

I am truly sorry for not making the time frame we talked about.I usually set all the actions and bolts on the bench until I get them done so they are in sight, in mind.
Somehow your receiver got set with a bunch of receivers I was waiting on bolts for, and after reading this post I checked over my receivers and found it. Again I am truly sorry. I thought I was currently all caught up with bolt handle attaching.
I truly feel terrible about this, it will get shipped out tomorrow if I can get to town as we are supposed to get up to 14 inches of snow tonight.

Grit,

I am a little red faced.

But am truly grateful for the kind words.

As far as the coyotes go, if the remote on the fox pro would have worked at 1,000yds we could have scared them to us:D

The whole family truly enjoyed having you here and you left us with a lot of fond memories. We also very much appreciated your help with the shop expansion. the new mill is up and running as of last night I just finished up running the air lines over to it tonight. You and your family are always welcome!

Nate

$50 or $10000 he treats you the same. Which I cannot say for some in this world. I have been treated far better than I deserve by Nathan. I can brag about the rifles he has built me, but I think the character of this man out shines his gunsmithing abilities(if that is possible). There just might be a reason why he is so busy. A good gunsmith is hard to find, but a true friend is next to impossible.

You are truly in the minority if you have had a bad experience with Nate. I have had work done on 1 rifle and he is now building me a complete one I can say nothing but good things about this man I just wish I lived close enough to him to meet him and be able to shoot with him. I went to him on a recommendation from Joel Russo and have had nothing but praise for him since the first time we talked. Okay Nate now that we have made your head swell can I get my rifle early? Yes I talked to Nate 2 weeks ago this Thursday and he said he would see if he could find the receiver, I have not heard from him since.

The receiver is for a Heavy Gun I am building and time is starting to get short. It is getting late enough that I may not have time to finish it for this season.
More and more I am wishing I had gotten a Lawton kit. I could have had the rifle finished by now because I wouldn't have had all the issues I have had with the Phoenix, it has been an albatross since day one.
I am leaving for OK this AM to boar hunt, hopefully when I get back I will have the receiver.

James

Nate, don't listen to these two fools. You can't be perfect all the time, mistakes are going to be made no matter what. It's how you handle the mistakes. Your apology to James H was a class act, and he still complained. Sometimes you can't win, just don't let these type of customers get you down. I have had many custom rifles built by many different gunsmiths and not once were any of them completed when the gunsmith said they would be. I was not mad at all, because I know gunsmiths are busy and the good ones take there time to make sure everything is right. Some of these guys who have rifles built or want something fixed or attached to their rifle, think there ordering from a fast food restaurant.

Once again, don't let these guys get to you. Your doing an awesome job and your a class act!
