7MM WSM brass problems

I own a winchester M70 coyote in 7mm wsm.
The problem I'm having is with winchester brass after the second firing
I can almost seat the bullets by hand even if I anneal the brass.
Has anyone else had this problem. Thanks

Has it been doing it from the get go or just all of a sudden.

Did you try measuring your expander ball?

In the past I havent shot it enough through it to tell. I usually shoot one or two rounds before deer season and maybe one or two during season. Going that way it takes awile to go through 50 pcs of brass. Now that I started shooting longer ranges I'm going through brass faster thats when I noticed the problem.
The expander ball dont touch the neck vary much, I could pull brass past it by hand. Thanks

What kind of dies are you using?
I outside neck turn my brass,just a lite clean up, in most cases only take material off 50% of the neck.My outside neck measurement is .311 It sounds like your having problems with your sizing die.

The dies are RCBS they were probably one of the first sets, I had to wait a couple of months to get them.

Here are some measurements that I took.

expander ball .2832
outside of neck before sizing .3218
after sizing w/o ex. ball .3115
after sizing w/ ex ball .3120
neck of a loaded round .3130
actual bullet dia. .2838

you actually have a good situation. just run the brass in the sizer without the expander. this will give you straighter brass and looks to me about a .002 squeeze on the bullet. i don't use an expander on any of my cartridges.

my only other advice i would give is to avoid RCBS dies.

Like dave said I would not be to concerned about .002, thats about what i like for neck tension.What would concern me more is how much your working that neck in one step,your going from .321 down to .312, thats .009 in one step this can lead to neck runout.What I have done in the past with guns that have a loose neck is go to a bushing die and take that down in two steps, no more than .005 at a time.It's kind of a pain changing the bushing but helps alot on the runout.

I've tried removing the expander ball, that seemed to help some.
When I get the money I'm going to purchase a forster ultra set.
Just wondering whats wrong with rcbs.

sounds like your necks are about .015 thick. does Rem make brass for the 7wsm? the Ultra Mag and WSSM stuff has very thick necks, closer to .020. if your necks were a little thicker, your situation would be much less of a problem. your necks are expanding .010 or more. thicker necks, don't use the expander, more squeeze on the bullet, less clearance with the loaded round.

use 300wsm brass to make the 7wsm. necks will be a little thicker.

Winchester is the only one that makes 7mmWSM brass.

Are you sure you can make 7mmWSM brass out of 300WSM brass? I asked this question in another thread. Haven't gotten a definitive answer yet.

Are you sure you are using Winchester Brass? Winchester brass has very thick necks. I opened 3 different bags of new Winchester 7WSM brass and all had loaded neck diameters of +/- .320.
Federal brass has a loaded neck diameter of .315. Is it possible you are reloading Federal brass?
I ran into this from the opposite perspective. My Surgeon Razor in 7WSM would not chamber loaded Winchester WSM brass without turning the necks, works fine with Fed brass.
I would buy a new bag of Winchester 7WSM brass and you should be good to go.

I think you would be able to take 300 brass and neck it down to make a false shoulder and then fire form it from there. But I'm not up to that much work and wear on my gun. Whats everyone's opinion on forester ultra dies.
The brass that I'm working out of is a couple of years old, and it is winchester.
I've ordered new brass it should be here this week.
