7mmWSM from 300WSM brass?

Looking at the case drawings looks to be possible. Make a false neck and blow the shoulder forward like forming an Ackley.

It would sure be nice to use Norma brass instead of Winchester.

Anybody done it? See any pitfalls?

The WSMs all use the same headspace gauge so the only thing I think you will have
to do after sizing to 7 WSM would be to turn the necks down a little.

It sounds like a good plan .

7mmWSM is the bastard, like the 338RUM.

The 7mm is longer at the shoulder than the 270, 300, and 325.

Yes, I'm very familiar with Nate's 7mm's. It is the reason that I went with the WSM.

What he is using is a 300WSM necked down to 7mm. He looses a little case capacity, but gains the longer neck and better brass.

Nate makes awesome rifles and does fantastic work. He'd rather have the longer neck and loose a bit of fps with the better brass.

I'm willing to split the difference. I want the better brass, keep the fps, and loose the length of the neck.

I'm not sure with my skills that the length of the neck is going to factor into my accuracy. Basically, that would be the one thing I would be willing to loose.

I'm just not sure that I can make 7mm brass from 300WSM Norma brass.

GG, if you were having a 7wsm built right now would you go with the standard or do the 7mm-300wsm? I am setup for the standard but it wouldn't cost to much to change.

I am having a long action built strictly for hunting.

Just curious,what is so bad about the Winchester brass that would make you want to go through all that trouble?I have used both Lapua and Winchester brass for a 300WM,and did not notice any difference in accuracy.The only difference I could tell was the Lapua'a require less prep work when comparing virgin brass.I am sure the more expensive brass lasts a little longer too,but they also cost twice as much.I think as long as you sort and prep the brass,you should see just as much accuracy with the winchester as you do with any high dollar brass.I am not trying to start a debate,this is just my opinion.

You are right I was thinking WSSM "SORRY" for the miss information.

One should never commit things like this to memory when you are my age.

I'm in the process of building a standard 7mmWSM. I chose it over the 7-300 for no other reason than the extra case capacity and ready available reloading dies.

I didn't feel that the extra neck length would be of great benefit to me.

I have nothing against Winchester brass. Actually, I prefer it over most factory brass. I was only curious if having access to Norma brass was as easy as a simple fire form.

It's always good to have more options available.
