I know that with handloading, you can dial in a bullet. Is there off the shelf ammo that is comparable to handloaded ammo? I dont have a budget to shoot all kinds of ammo to see what my gun likes the best, but I need a good place to start.

I have a .270 win, in a winchester featherlight. I mainly hunt mtn's and shots can go 25 yds to as far as you want. Elk and deer.

Regular hornady custom 140 gr btsp loading. if the light mag version shoots good, then use that.

The Winchester 140 accubands worked great in 2 of my 270s before the days of handloading. Took deer at 400 and 300 yards effectively. Like pulling the rug from under them.

My vote will go for the 150gr nosler partion made by federal. Y shoot realod but the federal work good(sub moa in my rifle). The 150gr should be a minimun if you whant to go elk hunting with it.
