I'm trying to find out if it is possible to rechamber a 7MM Rem Mag to a 7 STW without having to set the barrel back. What is the magazine length standards on each normally? (not the loaded round OAL). Thanks or your help.

That is a very common way of going to that caliber, as long as you do it slowly and watch the head spacing. Just remember though that it was found out by many the std. 24 inch barrel isn't long enough 26 + is more desirable to get the extra energy and velocity of the chambering.
As far as the mag. length goes you can buy the 7stw mag tin from rem.
I always enjoyed that caliber.

Usually not a problem but there can be situations where the shoulder on the old 7mm Rem Mag chamber will not be completely cleaned up by the STW reamer.

For example, if you have a 7mm Rem Mag chamber that is dimensionally on the outer limits of SAAMI spec and a 7mm STW reamer that is a min spec custom reamer, you may see this problem.

I have only seen it once, it does not happen often but it does happen. If you used a standard spec 7mm STW reamer, I would doubt you would have any problem unless you had a very loose 7mm Rem Mag chamber to start with.

Rechambering

Kirby,

Thanks, as this is the info I was looking for and can understand the issue that can develop if the chamber/reamer dimensions are close.

Been thinkin about picking up a new sfII sendero in 7mm RM and having it reamed to 7 STW. Think it would make a nice long range rig and give my 270 win LSS some company. Either that or just go with the SFII in 300WM and calling it good with 165gr Sierra Gameking HPBT. Wonder what it would cost to have it rechambered to the STW.

I have encountered the same problems with loose chambers and if you don't want to
re barrel then go to a 7mm RUM . It will clean the chamber up and then some.

I like both the 7STW and the 7 RUM so if you want the STW then you will probably have
to rebarrel .

Don't you have to mess around with a sako extractor and open up the bolt face to go with the rum?

No !

The 7 RUM has the same head size as the 7 rem mag, 7 STW and many other Magnum
rounds .534 case head dia. And no bolt face or extractor work is nessary.

Remingtion only makes one size long action so loaded COL will be the same unless you
change to an extended magazine.
