My son was with me last week in Kansas hunting white tail deer. He watched one shot and is hooked.

We are looking for a reasonably priced rifle in the 6.5 up to .30 caliber. Something that is easy to shoot and easy on brass. This will be his first long range rifle and he has a limited budget.

Please let us know if you have one that shoots well you will part with.

Update: a bit more info as we are zeroing in:

1: Tactical stock, like an A-5 but does not have to be a McMillian

2: Heavy 26" or longer barrel length and a brake would be nice

3: Need to be able to do 1000 yards

4: Leaning toward a 300 Win. Might consider something a bit smaller if it will go the distance.

Thanks!

Jeff

there is a tikka .308 for sale in on this forum. Although I don't own the exact model, I've shot several tikkas (2 of my own, 2 from a buddy) and they all shoot lights out.

I'd say it fits the bill, based on your criteria.

easy to shoot - CHECK

easy on brass - CHECK

6.5-300 caliber - CHECK

limited budget - CHECK

shoots well - CHECK

Go for it....

What length and what twist in the barrel? Can you send pics? Also what kind of barrel life could one expect from a 6.5x284 ?

Thanks!

Jeff

I have a brand new in the box remington 700 adl in 7mm rem. mag with 26 inch barrel-no sights... not a custom, but with proper bedding should shoot great.

Gentlemen, Thanks for all the leads and PM's. Please continue, we have been pointed to some interesting rifles and we are zeroing in on just what he wants. Below is a bit more info and an update on what he wants.

Again, Thanks and keep em coming.

Jeff

I have a HS Precision Classic Sharpshooter it's a pre 64 styled Model 70 Winchester. Has a controlled feed bolt head.

Was built in the HS Precision custom shop has a HSP barrel and a HSP stock 26" barrel .300 Win Mag.

It'll keep em in a half inch at 100 yards if you do your part. In this group I called the one flier but it's still not too bad. That's 69 grains of 4831!

It has a Leupold Vari-X 3 4.5 X 14 Mil-Dot scope. I shoot Berger VLD 210 grain bullets with great sucess. She has a one in 10" twist.

Here's what the reticle hold looks like with a 100 yards zero.

You crank her up to a 300 zero and here's what it looks like. I seldom have to fool with adjusting the target knobs although they are there if you want to play with her.

I have several rounds of once fired brass most of it I picked up as I live a short distance from a public range. A set of RCBS dies and a whole box of Berger 210 VLD bullets. Round count is 180.

I'd take $2000.00 + S&H to your FFL.

And I don't really care if I sell her or not! LOL!

Thank You all. We just last night closed the deal on a new custom build :)

It is a 300 Win Mag stainless 700 long action in a marble black and gray A-5 McMillan. Broughton #7 SS barrel with a BR taper 27" long. A Badger brake, Rifle Basics trigger. Being built by Long Shot Rifles just 2 1/2 hrs down the road.

Now we need another night force. Better sell off some of my other scopes.:D

Thanks again!
