Anybody have any thoughts on this rifle in .308?

I've posted a similar response a couple times when asked about SPS rifles;
I have owned one and had two friends that had one each as well. None of them shot very well and all needed some work. The short story is that I would think about looking elsewhere. For about the same money you could get a savage in a 308. IMHO and my limited experience I have yet to see a savage that out of the box didn't shoot well especially when paired with some basic handloads. I have sold my SPS to a guy who used it as a donor action and bought myself a sendero and also a savage in a short action. I can shoot the savage a bit better than the 3x the cost sendero sf II. Hope this helps a bit, but remember this is just my 2 cents, hopefully some other guys will chime in.

Well I had one in 223, only mod was trigger adjustment. Rifle shot great groups with Black Hills ammo. My brother has one in 25-06, shoots very well also with a simple trigger job.
They're a cheap option for a half decent rifle that is a good base to build on later.
Bed it into a decent stock, do a trigger job and it should shoot well, unless you got one made on a day when quality control didn't show up for work....

I have two. A .223 and a .308. Both are varmint models and both shoot 1moa (and sometimes better) right out of the box without modification and with Remington factory ammo. I was pleasantly surprised.
They both have quality scopes on them. When I begin modifications I'll start with the triggers, then move to stocks and bedding.

They are great rifle and I would not hesitate to start off with one just not in 308 for long range hunting.
IMHO the only week link in that rifle is the stock and I would replace it. I would do like the other guys said and get the trigger tuned and work on shooting out the barrel after that.
When its shot out get a new barrel and have the action blueprinted

Very close to my story. Only mine would not eject or feed from the mag. So I built a custom on it and then it did shoot well. I now use savage actions and am happy with thim (even out of the box). In my opinion there are too many other nice rifles avalable at that price point for remington to be resting on there lorals.

I own 2 of these as well a SS model in 25/06 sporter barrel that I have killed deer/goats out to 530 yards with! I did nothing but adjust the trigger a little lighter! It shoots 110 nosler accu bonds well and they hammer down big game!
I also have a .243 SPS heavy varmint barrel that will shoot less than 1" at 200 yards and have killed coyotes with it at 480 yards, both have the newer trigger which I like alot for crispness, just needs to be adjusted down a little on each one! I thought I would have to re bed in a different stcok but the vented varmint stock does well on a heavy barrel which unless you have some touching, with the stiffer heavy barrel I don't see where adding a 300.00 stock to this rig would make it shoot any better. For the price and the reliabilty of a 700 action getting this under 1" at 200 yards is awsome and I don't know how anyone would be unhappy with that performance of a factory rifle! A buddy has a 2800.00 gun in .243 and it doesn't shoot alot better to justify the cost differance IMO!
In time I can add a new barrel, have it trued up and then set it in a nicer stock if need be, but the performance I have gotten out of these 2 guns for less than 600.00 EA they are a bargin IMO.

savage model 10 fp works for me ,right outa the box 3/4 inch at 100 yds handloads .292 5 shot group works for me . i love that gun.gun)
