Started off opening morning My partner john took a 4x4 with eyegaurds at 9:00am in one draw. Loaded him up in the John Deere Gator. Got half way back down hill and noticed a herd across canyon running down a draw with two more good bucks in it. They were head for the same draw that John just shot his. Put the gator in reverse and went back to same draw. Got into position and the does started out of the draw. then a 3 point. Put the crosshair on him and asked john to let me know what second buck was. Then he said other buck was a 4 point. Took the crosshair off the 3 point and layed it on the 4 point. Took of safety and touched the trigger. That been said John went back to the Gator and then he backed up to my buck. Weloaded it in with the orther buck and headed for the truck. John shot his at 9:00am and I shot mine at 9:20am. 20yds. apart from each other. wWe were done by noon. then ate lunch. here is some picks. Took my son next weekend and he shot his by 10:20am. Thanks. Elk hunting was a different story. Ended up in the getting rained out and one hunting partner staying out one night in the woods. Luckly he made it back to camp the next morning. Then the area started flooding and then headed home. Found the elk on the way back. Only problem was they were in the city limits of Packwood Washington. Had a 6x6 and 5x5 next to the road feeding in somebodys yard. Stopped by the Sun Mart to get a bite to eat and had a cow elk walk through the gas pumps and cross the highway in front of us.

Glad to hear someone in WA has gotten a deer. I went out early season for mule deer and found nothing more than a forkhorn. I've been out several days for whitetail but have so far struck out. I've only got 3 days left I can hunt this year... Wish me luck.

Keep your spirits up and go get a big whitetail. Good luck to you.

I have hunted deer for years here is WA state and never seen a legal deer to shoot.

This year I got 3 out of state doe tags and filled them each in less than 5 minutes of hunting.
I did spend 48 hours of drive time to and from other states.

What does it all mean?
Anyone who has a good year hunting deer in WA is either:
1) not on public land
2) packed into the back country
3) a better hunter than me
