300 WSM Honey Loads

I am new to this forum, so with that a happy and hearty HELLO! I am currently having a 300WSM built on a Mod 12 Accu Savage with a 26" 1:10. I have bought Hornady 208 A-Max's that I would like to use for some LR shooting. Currently the manuals that I am using only show loads for 200 and 220 grain bullets. Does anybody have a honey load for A-Max's if using them, if not 210grn loads, and give some velocities if applicable.

I'm looking for primers used, powder and powder weight, OAL etc.

210 bullet, H4350 at 62-64 grains and F210 (not 215) primer.

Amax, start touching and come to about .025 max off.

go to alliants website and download their data on the new RL17 powder.

Just curious as to what length barrel you are using to get that speed. 24", 26" much longer? Thanks.

26-inch bartlin 11.25 twist.
The chrono was not mine but one at the range.
they did not provide me with any sd es or other data as they were chronoing everyone at the match.
Upon reflection the 2795 velocity given to me seems excessive with that charge when i run it
through quickload as according to QL i could not achieve that velocity with even 65grns.
I'll have to do my own test and revert back to you with results.

Sounds good. I will be shooting from a 26" factory 1:10. I think I will be shooting a little slower than yours. I want to try and achieve 2750+. I guess I'll have to work up some recipe's. Let me know how things work out.

I have that exact rifle. I love it. I have shot a couple different loads out of it. here is the data I have came up with.

210 gr berger, Federal 215 match, Hogdons 4831sc 66 grains, MV 2850fps

185 gr berger, Fed 215 match, Hogdons 4831sc 67 grains, MV 2940fps

180 gr Nosler accubond, fed 215 match, Hogdons 4831sc 67grains, MV 2928fps.

My buddy shoots the same gun also and he loves the RL22 powder in his. he shoots 210 gr bullets also. we love these loads, they are extremely accurate and hit game hard. I have settled in with the 185 gr bullet. in the last 3 years I have shot all three of these loads. all have shot atleast 1/2 in groups at 100 yards. You will love the gun, we sure do. these are not max loads. pressures are good.

What about IMR powders. I have 4831 and 4350 in IMR and not sure what to load. I am going to start with 61.5 grn with F210 and F215. I want to see what type of speeds I get. I'm hoping that I can move up in powder charge.

I forget and maybe you can help. Slower powders create higher pressures correct?

I don't like IMR powders because of the drastic velocity changes with temperature changes. where I live that can hurt me in the field. I have heard that IMR powders can vary over 100 fps with pretty good temp changes. Hogdons is like 10 fps. also I have always used hogdons. that is what my father started me using when I was young.

I am not very educated on pressures with different powders. I just know what has and still works for me. IMR is a good powder, don't get me wrong, I just want a consistant burn and speed at all temps I shoot in.

Hello all,
I am new here but thought I could share what I have been playing with load wise. I have a Winchester model 70 300wsm 24" Barrel 1in10 twist. I have loaded the Berger 210gr vld with Winchester brass, CCI 250LRM primers, 57.5gr's of Hodgdons H-4350 which is moving at 2600fps. I couldn't find any load data for Berger bullets so I contacted Walt Berger through the website and he sent me load data for my rifle. Start charge with Hodgdons H-4350 is 55.5gr's and max is 58.5. Over all case length is 2.860. Good luck and happy hunting. Hopefully this helps.

Equal grain for grain, faster powders create MORE pressure than slow powders. This is why it takes nearly 100 grains of H50BMG powder to get the velocities up in a 7mm RUM. If you put 100 grains of VARGET in that case you would blow the rifle in half.

This is a good thread. I have been looking at moving from the 300 RUM to the 300 WSM. It seems like the 300 WSM is a sweet spot for the 30 caliber. This thread is helping me get an idea of what to expect.

I am interested in running the 208 for sheep, deer, antelope and goats. Will use the 200 AB for elk and moose.

My plan is to use a 24" barrel with an 11 or 11.25x barrel for hunting and have an identical 308 for practice and shorter range sheep, deer etc.....

Just like the other guy has said. Slower burning powders less pressure. I personally dont care for IMR powders to drastic of changes in pressures for me. I just went and shot some 165gr Nosler Ballistic tip boat tails. Some loaded with H-4350 and some IMR 4350. The ones loaded with IMR were all over the place and the ones loaded with Hodgdons 4350 I had 5 shots in a 3/4" group at 100yards. Just my opinion though. Load all different types and brands and find your guns powder, bullet weight and seating depth and run with it. Its all just playing. Speed isn't everything too fast can equal inconsistency its all about grouping and energy down range.

Well... I finally got a load put together. I'm finding it to be a little temperature sensitive. On dry 55+degree days I can pull a .5" group. Colder than that and it opens up to about 1.00" I think I will have to re-think my load for cold weather. Any way, here is my load data.


H4831sc 65.4grns 208A-max Federal 215 primer, Win. Brass preped and trimmed.

The throat was cut to long, by no fault of my smith. I made it long that way, but I think it is messing with my pressures.
