Loading 45 Long Colt .All loading books list what gun their loads are or not to be fired from.I shoot a S&W25-5. It can take some fairly stiff loads.But today I loaded some 300 gr Sierra JSP with a load they listed for Ruger or Contender only. 9.4grs of Unique behind Sierra 300gr. That load produced the best accuracy I've ever had. Load felt light compared to loads I've shot before. They're listed max load for a Ruger is 10.4grs. I've shot 23grs of H110 behind 270gr cast and those loads kicked HARD.But gun handled them very well. They list 19.6 grs of H110 as lightest powder charge in Ruger shooting 300 gr bullet.Do I have rocks in my head for want ting to shoot those loads out of my Smith?

I am using a Freedom Arms 454 Casull at the momemt, and I wrote Sierra, about possibly using their bullet in it and the they also advised against it.
So I guess I will not be using Sierra's in this revovler anyway.

What??? No they must not of understood what you were asking.The 300 gr JSP is listed in Sierra manual for 454 Casull. I meant powder charge I was using Sierra advised against it for my S&W25-5. I think their Lawyer advises them on loads. I've loaded their max load of Unique behind this bullet in my S&W with no problems.

You may find that Sierra wasn't recommending those loads for a Smith.

Look at the guns these loads were for - Ruger and Contender - both much stronger guns. While the Smith may take these pressures for a while, it will loosen up at some point.

What kind of MV does the sierra manual say is max for the 300 grainer in 45 caliber?
They don't want their 300 grain bullet to be driven above 1550 fps. The base on it isn't heavy enough for velocities/pressures beyond that.

My old load in my Field Grade Freedom Arms 454 Casull and my current load in a Freedom Arms Model 83 454 Casull for 300 grain bullets is 31.5 grains of H-100 (Rem 7 1/2 primer). Both are 7.5 inch barrels
My Field grade chronoed at 1775 fps from the muzzle, but I haven't chronoed the Model 83 yet.
