I'm looking for feedback on doing a Savage 12 S/A build shooting the 115gr Dtac bullets.
I'm hoping to use a 243 case and was researching what barrel twist to use.
Some guy's are getting by with a 1:8 twist , but maybe a 1:7.5 would be safer to stabilize those bullets?
Anybody running this combo or have any better idea's on a case than the 243?
Second thought is if a guy has a 6mm BR already, would this build be worth the time and cost? There isn't a big gap in performance between the two.
I've got this Savage action to build on and already have a .308 and a 6mm BR in the works.
The 6.5 or 7mm bullet options just add to the list of options:confused::D

243 Ackley:D

The 243 AI that I have has a 1 in 8" Broughton and shoots the 115's like no other.

I also have a 6mm-06 with a 1 in 8" Lilja that won't stabilize the 115's.

If I were to do it again I'd go 1 in 7.75" just to be safe.

No doubt you will like the 243... improved or not.

Not sure about your 6mmbr question I don't have one.

I agree, be on the safe side.
I also have 8T Broughton (6-284 - Specialty handgun and I have shot the 115's almost exclusively.

I sent you a pm about your 6-06.
