Nightforce FFP scope

NEW Nightforce 3.5-150x 50mm FFP Quick Review:
Thanks to Mike Miller I was able to see the NEW Nightforce 3.5-150x 50mm FFP and the Premier Reticles Heritage 3-15x50mm Tactical FFP scopes. Here were are going to be talking abut the Nightforce FFP.

New Nightforce 3.5-15x50mm FFP:

The New Nightforce 3.5-15x50mm FFP has the same look and feel as the SFP Nightforce we all love. There is a big difference other than the New Nightforce being FFP and that is it's made in the USA. You can see in this photo the Made in USA sticker in the front.

All of the Nightforce FFP scope will come w/ 0-Stop. You can have the Zero stop in 1/4moa (10moa per rev.), 1moa with wind 1/2moa (40moa per rev), or 1/10mil (5mils per rev). The turrets are very positive and easy to tell were you are on the turn.

At this time you Nightforce is offering Mil-Dot and MLR reticles. The Glass is very nice, the reticle like a lot of FFP scopes feels a little thick, but over all is very nice.

Things I would like to see done down the road:
· I would like to see a 20moa turret and a 10mil turret.
· 5.5-22x50mm
· And the reticle numbered

The advantage of a FFP scope is that you can range at any magnification. Where as on a Second Focal Plan the reticle is calibrated to range at only one specific magnification.

The advantage of what Longshot mentioned works not only for Milling, but also for whatever multi-dash or dot reticle you have, whether in Mils, MOA, or a ballistic reticle.
You can use your reticle for shooting at any power knowing that the subtension (the measurement between two point or stadias is the same at any magnification).

On typical variable power scopes in America (Second Focal Plane) you have to have the scope magnification at either the highest power or on a set power that is marked by a diamond/dot or some other mark for mil-ranging and to ensure that the distance between your dot and or lines are correct.

Range at any power and can use your holdovers at any power.

I'm glad to see NF is finally bringing FFP to the table. Man, they really creeped up that price though, I was hoping they'd keep it down a bit better than that.

Just don't hardly seem worth it for the price their asking. You can buy a quality set of range finders for the price differance

Ranging at any power is nice but the big thing is using it for holdovers for wind and elevation. With a SFP scope you have to make sure you are on the right setting ranging, holdovers, and to make impact corrections were a SFP you do not need to worry.

for roughly the same price, i would be more tempted by the IOR 3-18model in FFP with in my opinion a better reticle which is also numbered like a custom from US Optics and further more with 10mils on each revolution, it will take most bullets out to 800m in one turn. i saw that nightforce only has 5mils per turn. i can get a good price on the IOR here in europe too.

i also like the fact that the windage knob is red on a 1/2turn so when im dialing wind i know which way im going and with 3.5 mils on each 1/2turn which is about 12MOA, i think its enough for any windage adjustment you might need to make. in my opinion its a good alternative to the S&B 5-25 model if you can't fork out all that money.

Actually the IOR is about $1000 cheaper here, and agree it's a wonderful scope for the money.

Unfortunately, the first couple batches have not shown themselves to be tolerant of heavy recoil, the 3rd might be fine but we don't know that yet. I have a new one for sale right now for that very reason.

There should be no such worries with the NF. That $1000 buys peace of mind.

The IOR would be a great scope BUT they have not proving them selves reliable in the field, there have been a lot of failed IOR 3-18x FFP scopes. I would really like to see them succeed for we also sell IOR.

The IOR also have great glass. Here is how I look at it. Would you rather have a scope that can see the fly on the target at 500yds but turns in to a spotting scope that is mounted to your rifle when you shoot it OR a scope that sees very well and tracks were you need it to go?

The NF turret has 5mil per REV and that is not really all that bad because to get a 308 out to 1k it will take about 10.5mils and under so that is only 2 and 1/0 of a revs.

In my opinion Nightforce is one of the best scopes on the market. They are reliable, the reticles are really nice, the turrets are very positive, and the glass is not the best on the market but it is very nice good enough to make a good ID and make a good hit.
