I just picked one of these up on a whim. I have two Mark V's in 257 and 300, so I am not a stranger to Weatherby. Just curious if anyone has an STW and what they have done with it so far. I am not looking for a super long range rig, I have a 338 Sendero for that work.

kfrye,
I shoot a 7 STW with 168gr Berger @ 3150fps. Excellent caliber. I use 79.8gr Retumbo with Fed215GM primers. I could push it faster, but don't see the need.

Hunting load
140 grn Accubond
82 grn H=1000
3247 FPS not as fast as it will go but most accurate. 3/4" groups 200 yards.

Also shoot 150 and 168 grn SMK hunting and target all shoot nearly same POI at 200 yards.

I'm a member of HRstretch's STW club. I have a custom 338 Lapua that colects a lot of dust because I also have an STW. (Please don't flame me, its not really collecting dust!)

I love that caliber. I use 80 grains of Retumbo with 160 accubonds and its a great load.

80 grains of H1000 with 140 accubonds to 3320
79 graing of h100 with 160 accubodns to 3212

Great caliber. I want to try some wildcat bullets in 150 but cant seem to get in touch with them.

The 7mm STW is an awesome round.I have a heavy barrel Sendero and it's quite pleasant to shoot without a muzzle brake.I am using Winchester WXR powder in mine.I use 80.0grs,Win. Large Rifle Primer,150gr bullet=3450fps on the chronograph,no pressure signs and 1/2" groups. This powder is double base and made in Sweden.Reloader 22 is also double based and made in Sweden, may even be by the same company. They seem to be loaded very similar,I have some loaded with Reloader 22 to try out, just haven't made it to the range yet.I also had excellent groups too with 82.0grs. of H-1000 at 3226fps with 150gr bullet and 81.0grs. of IMR-7828@ 3244fps with a 150gr bullet. If you don't have a chronograph,I'd get one, they sure are a good tool when working up your loads.

What type of bullet?

I have a wby mk v 7 stw and 140 grain remington factory loads shoot 3469 out of it with half inch groups. I can better that with handloads in either that rifle or one of my three custom 7 stw's. It and the 7mm-300 wby are very good rounds with excellent accuracy and performance.
