Comparison: Bushnell elite 4200 - Nikon monarch

I am facing a standoff between the Nikon Monarch 6-24 x 50 SF with BDC reticle and the Bushvell elite 4200 6-24 x 50 Tacticle with 30mm tube and mill dot reticle.

Does anyone here have any info/ experience/ happy or horror stories to help me choose?

Scope would be used for plains hunting also, but mostly competition shooting out to 450 yds

Of the two, I prefer the Bushnell 4200. More repeatable adjustments, and the glass seems pretty good. On the other hand, the Nikon Monarch X line seems to flip the order.

I've had two of the new Nikon Monarchs. Comparing them to my Bushnell elites 4200s . I couldn't get rid of the Nikons fast enough. I had a 5x20x44MM Nikon and I could see bullet holes with the Bushnell elite 4200 4x16x40 easier then with the Nikon.

I love my Elite 4200! The only thing that will ever make me get rid of it is a laser range finding scope that will cost me 5 times what my rifle did.

The glass on the 6-24x50 Bushnell I had wasn't that impressive. I compared it to my older 6.5-20 Nikons, I don't have a new Nikon. Mechanically the scope seemed fine.

Tyler, I did read all the reviews i could find on the 4200 including yours, but i just needed to hear it from those whe have tested both scopes.

Having gone through the agonizing process of choosing a scope, not one of the 2 finalists is available in this country!

Bugger that then, my old scope just got it's contract renewed for the next couple of years it seems.

South Africa - Here a firearm is not considered to be property. All gunowners now have to re register their firearms, write competency tests and motivate each and every differnt rifle they apply for. Let me say outright that my figures are not 100% acurate, but only about 25% of all legal weapons was succesfully relisenced over the past 3 years. New firearm licences are almost unheard of and loads of gunshops went bancrupt. You are limited to 2 rifles, unless you obtain dedicated hunter status (more tests and compulsory membership of clubs and hunts) allowing you 4 rifles.

Yes i do feel threatened, and so should every other law abiding gunowner and citizen. The goverment is going to great lengths to disarm the inocent. The criminals get to keep their weapons.
