I live just over an hour from my range. So I shoot my .22lr nearly everyday. Not a lot of rimfire compatable small game near me. Red Squirrels are protected, haven't found a whole lot of Fox Squirrels,Mtn. Cottontails, Snowshoe Hare (until winter) or Rock Chucks. I shoot targets from field positions. I try to keep my bullseyes nickel size or smaller and generally have about 50-100yds of clear sight. I'm shooting a Marlin 925r with a 4X32 Bushnell scope. Nothing fancy.

Any tips on training to break up the boredom? I shoot in all field positions, from my trekking poles X'd like shooting sticks, off my backpack, etc...

Thanks, Chris

My grandmother used to light the strike anywhere matches with her 22 from about 5 paces. I don't know if matches available now will do it. She would stick the match into a crack in a fencepost etc. and by hitting the very end of it, it would light. Then a second shot would put it out.

This just crossed my mind. My grandfather, dad and uncles couldn't do it. I never tried.

Wlfdg, New rimfire game.

Things you need .
1) small balloons
2) 200 yd range
3) A friend to shoot aginst

Staple ten small (3") balloons to the top of the 200 yard target board about 1" apart edge to edge.
Flip a coin to see who goes first.
Starting at the first balloon on the left or right side ( see skill levels ) you and your partner take turns trying to pop the "target" balloon, the "target ballon is always the first balloon on the left or right depending on which side you started from . Should you shoot a balloon out of sequence you deduct points ( 1 ballon to L/R of target -1 point ,2 ballons to the L/R of target -2 etc ... the wind can get you ) Pop the target balloon and get 1 pt. . Keep score and who ever wins has bragging rights until the next match, and the best part is you know the looser has to think about it until you both shoot again .

Skill level 1 = Wind blowing bullet away from un-popped ballons. Wind blowing left to right , start on right end.
Skill level 2 = Wind blowing bullet into the unpopped balloons. Wind blowing left to right , start on left end.

You can do the same thing at 50yds with paint balls, but the wind isn't as much of a factor.

It's lots of fun , makes things interesting, keeps you in the trigger and you learn quite abit about wind.

if you live where you can shoot in your yard i assume you have a compost heap, even if you dont birds and other critters clean up after you go to the grocery store and pick up a bunch of bruised fruit/vegetables a few places will give you stuff like that for free scince they cant sell it, if not for maybe 25cents on the dollar. its really fun dont do it near your home the cuz fruit flies even when its cold, ooh pumpkins its that time of year! anyways watching them explode is always a good time :D and who would ruin a perfectly good golf ball like that? if you dont want a new box of titleists ill take em:rolleyes:
