Well I just got through testing the new 250 gr accubond in .338
and was pleased with the results.

I,m shooting the .338 RUM with a 26" lilja hunting rifle and
using H 1000 .

The test were only at 100yrds but all groups were very good.

Best group was at 3029 ft/sec = .212 3 shot.
Worst was 2994 ft/sec = .369 5 shot.

All loads were strong but had no signs of excessive pressure.

I am planning a Elk trip to area 70 and wanted to use the 250 accubond
if I could make it shoot.

I have not played with seating depth or small changes in powder charges
or primer changes yet, but I will now before I run the balistic tables for
the hunt.

I'M happy and confident that the 338 RUM will do its job if I do mine

I'm with ya, the 338 cal 250 gr AB is a great bullet.
If I may ask, what loads are you using in your 338 RUM. I've been using Retumbo in my
700 LSS as posted here at LRH, MV 2937, ES 14 SD 7 and sub .5" at 100 yds. I would llike to get over the 3000 fps mark.

I'm using H 1000 and I started with 98 gr and moved up.

My 338 rum is built on a Weatherby mark 5 and my bullets are seated
a little longer because the action is .100'' longer than the Remingtion
action .

This gives me a little more case capacity ( I'm at 102grs but don't start
there) .

I can get 104grs the way my bullets are seated but I think I will stay
where I'm at.( No extraction problems or pressure signs ).

PS My Barrel is 26" (I started to cut it 27 1/4 but decided to go with 26'')
because of the length of the MK 5 action.

Be careful this is a tough neighborhood.

Thank you for the load data, I will give it a try.
I've been loading for 33+ yrs, no worries on the precautions.
My stock M700 LSS 338 RUM likes the 250 gr AB with Retumbo, just would like to get a little more velocity.

My scope arrived from Leupold so I plan on getting out this weekend.

I tryed Retumbo and found it to be unpredictable (All of a sudden pressures
would jump dramatically with the addition of only .01 or .02 grains )

But the H1000 seams very linear with no suprises.

PS A .479 is a very good group for a hunting rifle.

Where did you find this BC? Everything I've seen says .575 BC. Not questioning you, just wondering if something has changed.

A typo : the calculated BC was .583 not .587.

I'm trying to find the data but it could be wrong to.

And its ok to question because every bullet maker has his own
way of finding BC. and they have been known to change the
number.

Any way thats what I found when I started looking at the 250 AB
and that seamed a little high when compaired to the 225 AB .

But what ever it is it still shoots good and when I do the long range
testing I will calculate based on performance at range.
