Good long range 6.5mm hunting bullet?

I've been looking around and see a few that MIGHT work for whitetails.

Berger VLDs, Accubonds, Hornady SSTs, Sierra SMKs and Lapua Scenars.

I'd like to be in the 140gr range for a good BC.

Anybody tried these on game and have good luck with a 6.5x55 or other 6.5 working at a similar velocity? I'm getting about 2800fps with the 140gr bullets I've shot in the past (140 partitions) according to my Chronograph.

I'd like to have a bullet that would still work OK if I had a close shot.

I would not have an opportunity (or plant to) to shoot past 600yd at game with this setup.

I used to have a 6.5x55 with a 30" tube and it loved the 140 Berger VLD's. They worked well out to 1,200 on paper and 400 ish was the furthest I was able to shoot it on roe (weight 40-60 lbs) and red (140+lbs). All of them dropped on the spot when I did my bit. Closest shot was 4 yards, looking down the side of the barrel, still worked fine!

Lapua's suk for performance on deer. I was also warned, but they were shooting .3 moa at 500 yards, shot one deer at 781, porrest performance I ever saw, bullet broke in 2 on impact at 2000 fps, and separated, found all 3 pieces of the bullet but never again will I use them on game.

I am still waiting for my son's gun to get finished, so I have not tried them yet, but I chose the 130grn Sirrocco. They have the highest bc according to their web sight.

The rifle should be done in the next week or so. I will report on how it shoots when we get to start shooting it.

This bullet should perform well long or short. Just my opinion.

Barnes TSX will work inside your range limits and will shoot like a hot dam!

It will. I have experience with the Sciroccos and they are very good hunting bullets. Be patient with load development. I recommend you begin by seating this bullet at the lands.

Load 140 SST hornady in 6.5x55 Swede M94 2500-2600 fps. Shot 2 large 4pt muelies both in neck within 40 yards. Crushed spine with 1 in. exit hole other side. Some day I'll learn how to post the pics.

I'll second the 140 a-max. I'm at over 10 one shot kills from 75 to 609 yards.
