Bushnell 3200 vs. 4200

Is there any difference in the glass between these two? How about the reticle? the reticle on my 5-15x40 3200 seems really thick to me.

Has anyone tested them side by side, or used both very extensively?

I have tested them both and they do have thick reticles. For the price I really like them but they are not the best for long range shooting you will need to get a 30moa base. ELITE 4200 6-24X50 SF Tactical Mil-Dot MAT is a better over all scope but the ELITE 3200 5-15x40mm Tactical Mil-Dot for a lot of shooters. I move the ELITE 3200 5-15x40mm Tactical Mil-Dot to my 10/22 and it work great for it or it would be great for a 223.

Here is a photo of the ELITE 4200 6-24X50 SF Tactical Mil-Dot MAT. I tested.

I recommend get a higher quality scope like a Leupold, Nikon, and so on. If you are looking for a low price scope that will do the job the Leupold MK2 work very nicely.

With a 200 yard zero I need 31MOA to get to 1000. so with a 20MOA base that should be no problem at all.

Not to hijack the thread, but what about the 6500?

4.5-30x and only $670 seems like a lot of bang for the buck if they are any good!

I have a 3200 and my only complaint it the reticle. Facing toward Sunset the reticle tends to glow a bronze color and it is hard to use.....it is a big drawback, but it does mean that I am not using the Sun to my advantage

Even with a 20MOA base, I would say no. The Bushy 6-24x50 has only 50MOA in it. You need at least 40MOA from a 100 yard zero to be safe. Assuming you 100 yard zero with a perfectly centered reticle, that should give you 45 MOA. But you won't have a perfectly centered reticle with that scope/rifle.

I say this as someone who has sold hundreds of IOR scopes with 60-70 MOA in them and has had numerous customers fail to reach 1000 yards even with a 20MOA base.

The Bushy is not a 1000 yard optic, mechanically speaking. Period.

If I go with a 20 MOA base and 30 MM Burris Signature Zee Rings, the Zee rings come with .010 offset inserts. I think with the 20 MOA base, along with using a +.010 insert in the lower back ring, that should provide enough range with a 200 yard zero using 155 Gr. Sierra Matchking Palma Bullets in the .308 out to 1,000 yards. I'll be setting 2 Savage .308's up this way. A 10 FP with the Bushnell Elite 4200 Tactical, and a Savage 12 F/TR with a Leupold Mark IV 8.5-25X. Bill T.

How does the Leupold Mk 2 compare to the 4200 or 6500?

Maybe it would be better just to get to the point...What scope in the $500-700 range with turrets like the Bushnell or Leupold M1 would folks here recommend?

I like the 3200...but the thick reticle is getting on my nerves.

Nikon Monarch comes with target turrets and has better glass than the 4200. Limited adjustment range is it's shortfall.

New 6-24 Sightron SIII has target turrets and 100MOA of adjustment. Might be a little over the $700 mark though. Haven't had my hands on one yet but they've been getting very good reviews from others.

Vortex Viper series, with the BDC reticle, best value out there, IMHO.

Most likely the 20moa base and the rings will not work that is way I recommended the 30moa base but the best way to find out is to try it.

Does the glass in the MK2 compare well with a VXIII? I really prefer the M1 style turrets, but with the price difference makes me want to go ahead with the target turrets. The Leupold custom shop says they cannot put the M1 turrets on a Mk2.
