A 25 Gibbs would round out my Gibbs collection. I have a 240 Gibbs and a 6.5 Gibbs. As you can tell, I tend toward the smaller calibers with my shoulder problems.
It may seem like an odd question, but how's the recoil on a .257Weatherby??Have a few 25's. My favorite as it was my first a 257 Roberts in a Model 70 Featherweight. Also have 25-06 I use for longer shots on coyotes with 75grainers and a 257 Weatherby is great for whitetails with Nosler 90gr.
Looking at building a 25 caliber on a Big Horn Origin short action with a Bartlein #3 between 20-22inch long. This will be used primarily for a hunting rifle for deer size game. Planning to use the higher bc bullets that are starting to come out.
What say the group 257 Robert Ackley Improved, 25 Creedmoor or?
Have a MK5 RC in 257Wby... probably my most favorite to shoot.. loves the Barnes TTSX or TSX in 100grain.. 1/2" or better... great caliber. As far as recoil, imo it's not bad. But I shoot other large magnums that have more thump .. so I don't think it's bad. My daughter shoots it for hogs and whitetail.. she's about 5'4 and 110 or so she doesn't complain...you mentioned .243, she shoots it as well. She likes both, but if given the choice she picks the 257.. Take him to the range or a place to shoot at and let him try both. Sometimes what we think will work is the complete opposite.. let him pick. You might be surprised.. main thing is getting him involved..! We need the next generation more involved in shooting/hunting... & kudos for taking the time ... hope it all works out! Let us know which one he likesIt may seem like an odd question, but how's the recoil on a .257Weatherby??
Im considering one for my young nephew, who wants to get into deer hunting so bad, and has no one to take him....his Dad doesn't hunt. I have my own 2 boys to deal with but I'm gonna try to get him in the mix. He's 13 but all skin and bones.
I know the .257WBY isn't bad, but compared to a .260 how's it kick??
I know a .243 or 6mm would be perfect but if the nephew changes his tune and loses interest, old uncle Mark (yours truly) has always wanted a .257. Gotta look at all the possible outcomes. Lol
