Looking at building a 25 caliber on a Big Horn Origin short action with a Bartlein #3 between 20-22inch long. This will be used primarily for a hunting rifle for deer size game. Planning to use the higher bc bullets that are starting to come out.
What say the group 257 Robert Ackley Improved, 25 Creedmoor or?

I say yes to both! I own a 257 AI and love it. Prob will be building a 25 creed just because 😬
Also, I'd go 22 inches for a good all around length.

I currently own a 25 creed ans would like to add another 25 something to the line up. Was thinking a 25 blackjack, saum or western. The creed is sweet. 131's at 2920 fps, and dropped two whitetail last season 535 ans 550

Yeah 25 SAUM or 25 Blackjack (PRC)...gets you in that 25-06 + area..im pretty bought into 257 weatherby, but you want a short action....either one of those gets you in that area.

Seems anything mid cartridge size in .257 has a special ring to it lately. With the 131s currently and the new Berger additions, it seems like a great combination. Personally I'm going 25-284. The 25 CM, 25 Souper, 257 Roberts or Improved version. Even the big 257 Wby mag is a popular offering with many in between. U just can't go wrong right now with the .257 cartridge as new heavy bullet offerings are showing up. Hornady and Sierra will show up with a 130+/- weight class bullet I'm sure. That will complete the line up and if what happens as it did with the .270(6.8 Western)recently, gun companies will start offering fast twist .257 rifles.

If you happen to consider a long action, 25 Gibbs is a very impressive chambering. Can't go wrong with a 257 Roberts IMPROVED either. Just my opinion. Love the quarter bores.

I too am a quarter bore fan with a 250AI, a 257 Roberts (which I'm thinking of AI'ing), and a 25:06AI. As you can see, I'm also a fan of the AI since it gives me much more flexibility in reloading. I'm also a Gibbs fan, and am considering going Gibbs on my 25:05AI. Always reaching for more and better. But then that's what we're all after isn't it.

.25 Gibbs is a bad arse. I considered but went a different route because I already have .30 Gibbs. Working on a different .25 cal project, currently in parts acquisition mode.

Hmm, I would have never thought of that. 😇
