Anyone have a good load for the 338 Lapua with the 300 grain SMK?

RL 25 will be your friend. It gave me the most velocity without "sticky" bolt lift. Ramshot Magnum works well if you prefer a ball type powder. H50BMG also works well but it takes a case full. Lapua 250gr. Lockbase bullets also work well.
Semper FI

My best results have been with H1000 and CCI 250 magnum primers shooting 2830 fps out of a 28" barrels. groups at 600 were just over 2". This a custom build on a Lawton 7500 action, single shot in a Manners stock all built by GAP and nightforce NXS 5.5 X 22.

How many grains and what is your cartridge overall loaded length?

I settled on a load of 92 grains of H-1000 for 2800 FPS. OAL of 3.860" federal 215M primer in Lapua cases

I don't have my notes handy but, if memory serve the SD was 11 FPS. My barrel is 31" to the end of the brake and the barrel is a 1 in 10 twist.

jwp, your load is almost an exact mirror of the one we use in our 338 EDGE, 92g H-1000/CCI 250. We are using a 28" HART and getting 2830fps. Seems like the Lapua and the Edge are pretty much identical as to velocity and what they like? We to were hitting pretty low at 1000 yards our first time out. I got the bugs worked out and for our conditions, if we use 2700fps as our velocity, the clicks match up from 300-1000 yards. Dont know what thats all about, but I dont think it matters to much. That 300g SMK at 1000 yards still got some POWER!
