Need some lube for my Savage?

I painted my Savage 12FV .308 this weekend. Before the paint job the bolt was not to smooth but now it's even stiffer. I plugged the barrel real good so no paint would get in there, but I didn't cover the opening where the internal mag sits.

I was wondering if there is some sort of lube that would make the bolt move a little smoother? I have read that savage bolts are not as good as others but is there anything that can be done to help it out a little?

Also, is there anyway to get a detachable mag for the Savage 12fv?

Thanks for the help, Wyatt

Savage bolts need to be timed to be smooth. Savage Sharpshooters does it, just type that into google to find the website. Supposedly works wonders.

Tyler,
I think you mean Sharp Shooter Supply. I've heard they have a 7 month waiting list to time an action. I've also heard that it makes the action feel great, but doesn't improve accuracy.

Wyatt,
I'd try to get all the paint out of the inside of the action. If you are equipped, spin that barrel off and get to those raceways proper.

If your not equipped to spin the barrel off, spend $50 and get the tools. If you are going to own a Savage take advantage of it's modular and user-friendly design.

Good luck. Keep us posted on your progress.

Is it tight all the way, or just locking?

If it is tight all of the way then it is probably the ears on the magazine. They often sick up a hair. Look on the bottom of your bolt for dragging.

You also could take some magic marker and blacken the bolt ( or use a candle ), then cycle the bolt once and any where that is shiny was hitting something.

Look where the bolt cams over on the action, some Savage actions have a burr there.

The bolt can be cleaned of carbon with brake cleaner, but make sure that you use a graphite lube, like a lock lube or it will bind up.

edge.
