Anyone have experience (good experience preferred:)) with H1000 and 160 gr. accubonds? Have Rem Sendero SFII 7mmRM with 26" Hart 1-10 twist barrel, Win brass, Fed 215 primers. I have read some good things about reloader 22, but am hoping to find a good load with the H1000 for the temp. insensitivity, but maybe that's not that big of a concern.
Thanks for any help.

7RM

TB,

I'm a big fan of R22 in my 7RMs and have never seen the bad effects or instability often mentioned. That said, Another great powder with the 160s is 7828, may want to give it a whirl. 7828 under 162 Amaxes works well in my SFII.

Good Luck

A second vote for R-22 with 160s in the 7mmRM. You can put more of a slower powder in the case, like H1000 or 7828, but you probably wont net any more velocity. On the other hand, they'll likely give you as much velocity, and I'd just choose the one that shot the best. Again though, you'll find an awful lot of people burning R-22 in the 7mmRM. There's got to be a reason.

I have shot both RL-22 and H1000 in my 7mm Rem Mag.. I started with H1000 some years ago when I first got my gun. I had good experience with it shooting 175 gr Hornady SP. I found sometime later that the load I was using was about 5 grs above the recommended max load. I still shoot some 160 Accubonds with H1000 and get very good accuracy and velocity.

I gave RL-22 a try a couple of years ago and found that I could use the same amount of powder for the 160 Accubonds and 160 TSX bullets with close to the same point of impact and almost the same velocity and also with great accuracy(for me).

I think that either will work for you. Your gun may like one over the other.

I like something different with the 160-162g...

in the 7 Mags, using Rem brass with a 9 1/2 primer, usually 61.0g of IM R 4350 with the bullet just kissing the lands is not only very fast, but accurate as well. I have shot this load in many Rem 700's, one BAR, and one A bolt. If your gun will shoot the 162g SST, they are very wicked on deer.

I like R#22 also, but have seen some WILD temp swings in shooting from 75* to 35* as seen in my Ohler 35P.

The 120g Barnes Tripple shock will shoot a hole length ways through any deer walking at 3600 fps with less than 1/2" accuracy with R#22.

H1000 works great in my long-throated 7WSM (nearly the same case capacity), but I'm using either the Berger 180s or teh Sierra 175s. I used to use RL-25,but had some pressure issues in the Vegas summer. I agree that RL-22 and Retumbo will owrk well for your application.

H-1000 w/162A-max moly

I just got back from the range and had my A-Bolt SS loaded with H-1000 and 162 A-Max's moly coated (factory). I had a couple of boxes of these and they did not shoot in 7STW so I wanted to try in my 7mm Rem Mag. I shot only 6 rounds 2 3 shot groups for velocity and accuracy at 100 yards. The load was 68.5 grains H1000 w Fed brass 215mag primers. The first group was right at 1" w/OAL at the factory setting of 3.290. The same load w/OAL (max magazine) 3.375 shot .412 the velocity was at 2975, 2963, 2965 fps for my rifle. It was 85deg here this morning shooting. I shoot H-1000 in my Weatherby's due to be very stable in those cartridges in the heat and they are maxed out.
I think I'll load more of these try at 200yards and if they perform there move out to 300-500 yards. This is a really nice high BC bullet. Haven't shot 160 Accubonds yet but will load some of those also as this my first time w/ any luck w/H-1000 in the 7RM.
Pending what your looking for performance wise I think you'll be good to go using H-1000 it may not give you the fastest velocity but will give you very good velocity.

I tried retumbo in my 7rm and the accuracy was outstanding. Even more my load is 68 grains which is max according to hodgon and they list velocity for a 175 grain at 2800 fps. I'm getting 2860 with a 180 berger. I'm shooting consistently for the last 2 seasons under 1/2 moa. The best the gun ever shot was 1 inch at 500 yards. That was 5 shots. When I shoot the throat out I will rechamber into an ultra and then probably experiment with h1000 again.

linksmechanic........I thought that the retumbo was even slowere than the H1000? Any body know?

That is correct.
At least according to Hodgdon and everything I have tried both in.
That is it's a slower burning powder, not slower velocities.

I actually thought h1000 was slower. I was looking at a list of powders somewhere but it wasn't hodgdon. Oh well The retumbo was still more accurate.

I'm using 73.0 Retumbo in my 7mag with the 168 VLD. 24" Shilen Select Grade #4 on a blueprinted 700.

This rifle is the only one that I have that has had 4 different loads shoot one hole groups at 100 yards. This is using a rock solid bag rest on concrete bench tables. Trigger is set at 1 pound.

The VLDs are .001 off the lands (no more than .003). When I did the ladder test, starting at 68.0 grains, the cluster was no larger than 5/8". I knew then that the powder/bullet combo was going to shoot well.
