Powder change for a 300 weatherby

I am planning on swapping from IMR 7828 SSC to Retumbo in my 300 weatherby. This is an effort to reduce the number of powders I've got to keep around and I figure that Retumbo should work well with both the 338 lapua I'm having built and my 300 weatherby. But my concern is that Retumbo will burn to slow for my 300 that wears a 26 in barrel and pushes a 200 grain accubond. But on the flip side I'm thinking that I shouldn't have any issues with Retumbo in a 338 lapua with 28 in barrel and pushing a 300 grain bullet. Any thoughts?

I have used Retumbo in my 30-378 with good results on both 168 and 180 TSX's. The only problems I found with this powder is, it is a little dirty and it will go over the edge to HOT quick. Work up slow and watch new lots.

I have switched to 210 Bergers and have very good luck with H-1000. I am building a 338 Lapua too and hope it likes the H-1000 too.

H-1000 is a very consistent powder and an excellent choice.

What is your load with the H1000 and 210 bergers? Have you sent them over a crono yet? Just curious cause I'm also shooting a 30-378.

In my stock barrel accumark with 26" barrel, I get 3050 average on my crony with 98 grains and a 215 M. There is room for more velocity, but I didn't see the need. They shoot sub 1/2 moa and have done me well.

I shot this powder through a 24 " vanguard and 168 tsx for years and it was simply awsome. I have since moved to the EDGE and it is the powder of choice as well for that round. Temp stable and low ES variations. Cant see why it would not work for you.

Between 80.5 and 81 grains of H1000 under a 210 Berger was my 1000 yard benchrest load for a couple of years when I shot a 300 weatherby (no freebore). I also shot 80 grains of Retumbo under 220mk for awhile. Accuracy was there for the first few rounds, but I rechambered to 300wsm for better bag control and less heat for the match shoots in which you put 15-20 downrange in a few minutes.

In my 30-378 I'm currently liking 220mks over 113 gr H50BMG. 240mks over 107.5 H50BMG are a close second. I had pretty good results with the Accubonds and Retumbo in the factory barrel, but with the current 29" Hart 10 twist I couldn't find any combination of Accubonds, Bergers, 869, or Retumbo that performed better than the MK/H50BMG combo's.

I haven't tried the H1000 in this 30-378 barrel mainly because my stash/lot of H1000 is reserved for my 7wsm chuck buster. I do remember the factory barrel liking H1000 with 200gr MK's though. A touch over 100gr comes to mind.

All of that to say, I agree with the others that H1000 is where I would be looking with a 26" 300 Weatherby pushing a 210.

i just bought a pound of retumbo for my 300wm/208 amax.i would try it.on the powder can it has loads for 7mm rem mag.which is smaller than my 300wm.your 300weatherby is larger than my 300wm.what drew me to retumbo is all the 300rum shooters using it with great success.i have seen threads with 300wm and retumbo with good results.just a fyi i had a 300 weatherby benchrest rifle that i shot at pa 1000 yard club at williamsport.it loved reloader 22/200 smk.
