30 cal BC

For a 300RUM what 30 cal bullets have the highest BC? I read about folks using 200+ grain bullets but I see on the remington site that the Scirocco 180 grain has a BC of .500 and the 200 core lokt is around .400. Are there heavier hunting bullets out there with BC higher than .500?

SMK's, Wildcat Bullets, Bergers, JLK and I'm sure there are other that I've left out, all produce bullets with higher BC than .5 which is ok but not great....................

The 200 gr Accubond has a published BC of .588 and the Hornady 208 A-Max is around .640, it's a great LR deer bullet.

I figured the match bullets would be higher BC but, are they recommended for hunting? Elk? I'm looking for the best single bullet solution for distance and animals up to elk. Thanks

Given those parameters I think the Nosler 200gr Accubond would be your best choice.

Thanks Wambo, the accubond 200 looks like a good one to try. Based on Noslers Load data with 85.5grns of AA3100 being their most accurate load at 3002fps velocity this may be a good approach.

Have you substituted other powder with good results?

I have ran The 200 AccuBond to 3250 FPS with Retumbo with excelent accuracy

240 gr. SMK -- .711

Posts here seem to indicate guys can get it to around 3000fps out of a .300 RUM.

I've plugged that into the computer vs Shawn's .338 Edge loads published on his site (300 gr. SMK), and the ballistics/wind drift are virtually identical out to 1000+ (though I'll grant the .338 carries more energy).

I've read accounts of it getting the job done on Elk at long ranges, though that point is probably more disputed than with the 300gr .338 version or with the Berger 210.
