Thanks JeffVN,
Those pics are awesome!
The only piece of info I couldn't find,I read ALL the threads you supplied, was what head size is this 408 chey tac case?
Does it fit in anything other than 'custom' actions?
Any more info would be GREATLY appreciated.I might build ONE or MORE!

Or two or three or four......

Thanks for all the great info everone. They are pretty "wow" to say the least! I am in the middle of a project right now that will get me close to the 7. This info will let me see where I am standing against some of the best out there. Also how deep in the pocket book would a person have to dig to have Kirby build one in a remington action?

Not too expensive

Also how deep in the pocket book would a person have to dig to have Kirby build one in a remington action?

If you consider their accuracy and performance, I think they are a bargain compared to other custom guns. I'm having one built with a new stiller action and it's still less than half of a Lazzeroni. In fact, it's less than than what Cabalas is selling one of Kirby's USED guns for. If I where you, I'd order one. One of these days, Kirby will have to give in to the law of supply and demand and raise his prices.

And when that happens, you can obtain a fired case and have a reamer and gages made from it. Then, have your gunsmith of choosing do the work for you.

Nothing magical about chambering, threading and crowning a barrel. Additionally, stock work is easy to have done as well. Even by folks who have been doing it much longer than Kirby.

So, don't get locked into or fall in love with one gunsmith. Keep them guessing.

That is what is known as intellectual theft. While it is not unlawful, it is dishonest.

Kirby goes to a lot of trouble and expense to test his cartridges and the rifles that will shoot them. There is a lot of hidden costs that most people don't see like testing different barrels and different brass but people like me and Dick have a reasonable understanding of it. When you steal his ideas and have someone else build a rifle you have failed to pay for Kirby's hidden costs and have cheated him.

The chief reason I don't have Kirby build more of my rifles is I am just really paranoid about shipping my guns around. If a person does good work for you then you should show appreciation by customer loyalty.

Finally, if there lots of gunsmiths who can build great long range rifles around why don't you see their names mentioned when hunting season rolls around and pictures are posted and proof is laid out for all to see.
