Just bought a 338-378

Anyone have any load experience with this caliber. Especially for use in long range shooting of 1500 meters and more.

Looking for good starting points of bullet - powder combinations.

Thank you

hazman1,
Do yourself a big favour, and go and buy one of the latset reloading manuals, one of the bullet maker manuals would be a good start.
Study it to find a powder that will give you the velocity you want with the least pressure, this is normally the slowest burning powder listed, but not always!
Each gun, even of the same make, will shoot identical loads differently,so you will need to do quite a bit of testing yourself.
This cartridge works best with powders in the range of Retumbo,RE25,IMR7828 and even slower powders.
Good Luck.

hazman, I've tried several loads in my rifle, but recently decided to load only the 300gr Smkhp. So far, the best load is 108 gr H-5010, Fed 215M, and the 300gr bullet. Just barely under 1 moa though, so far. However, this load delivers almost 1000 ft/lbs of energy at 1 land mile. No sign of pressure, and I expect that I can go up to around 2850 fps.

Good shooting, Tom

Mine really likes 107gr of Retumbo under the 3000gr SMK. It get 3011 fps and less than 10 fps velocity deviation.
