Ok I have a 338 Edge in the works but this will be used for stationary shooting and more than likely will never go hunting but steel plates and I'm gonna give the p-dog at 1760 or further a try! now for the question opinion I'm used to straight power scopes for my shooting even my variables are set on 10X and my 10X works well out to 1K but what would everyone think about power range for 1K out to say 2K? I'm thinking 20X but would 16X work? I know the shots would have to be in the morning or mirage will wash everything out in the panhandle of Texas and Oklahoma it gets nasty so what are your opinions on this? Later,

if you are going to be shooting out to 1k to 2k i would say do what i did buy a nxs 8x32x56. that way if you want to shoot under 1k you can still turn it to 8 or 10x and when you really get out there to 1500 and beyond you can turn it to 32. with the edge you should have enough moa to get it there but i would still go with the np-r1 reticle that way if you need more you can use the crosshairs. it gives you an additional 20 moa. and why not if you are spending that much on your rifle whats another $1686 for a great scope. good luck

Well sir I'll be building the rifle so the cost is going to be about half the cost of that scope! don't get me wrong I would LOVE to put one of those on the rifle but ya know being finacially embarassed really sucks! I'd have to take a loan out and give blood and plazma for a year to be able to afford glass like that I have the Nightforce taste with a Bushnell budget. a friend had one of the SS 10X on his AR-50 but the longer shots got a little iffy as to where you were really aiming. If money is tight, I'd suggest getting your name on the waiting list for a Millet LRS.

Yeah I'd rather stick with a Bushnell 3200 or 4200 or have been looking at the Super Sniper's from SWFA money is tight but I can stash a little here and there to get some decent glass prob not a NF or the like but have never been a huge fan of the Millet scopes. I'll be replacing a 3200 5x15 with turrets and mil-dot. Later,

Bushnell's got that 6500 out there that looks like a dandy. i think they're going for 700ish.

as a side note, 2K and a tight budget don't really get along very well!

Dave I'm finding that out! what I was thinking 6 months might be a more realistic 8-10 months! I save a bunch doing most of the work myself but some things I just can't do like make a scope or at least for the price I could purchase one for that is

I guess I should have ask can you see well enough through a 16x or 20x at a mile? mostly 24x24 plates (yeah big piece of ply behind it) and possibly a p-dog one of those big fat budda looking ones! 10x I do fine with out to 1k but don't have the horsepower right now to get out further but I'm getting there. Possibly the new Falcon menace in 4x14x50..but I would say mow some grass and get the NF or SnB..My dad who is 63 is mowing neighborhood yards to help pay for our elk trip,,no big deal just get the money..Plus its a hoot, he has a monopoly going.

Here's what a 24" by 36" plate looks like at 1500 yds through a 14X IOR:

The circle is 1 foot diameter. Of course in person it was much sharper, the blurriness was my problems getting the camera to focus.

It's not quite a mile, but it should help give you a point of reference. That's about exactly how it would look at a mile through a 16.4X scope.

Well I would think that 16x would be PLENTY enough! I'm not going for records and that being on 14X 16X I'm sure will be plenty. Jon thanks a bunch! and fella's thanks for your opinions. Later,
