Shot those 95gr Berger VLDs out of my 10"twist hart BBL 6x284 today. They shot flawlessly. Better then 1/2MOA. Started with 51.5 grs of Re#22 graduated with 6/10th increments up to 53.3 grs. Velocity was lower then I hoped for but no pressure signs. Low was 3,125 with 51.5 Re#22 High was 3,275 with 53.3 grs. So next week I'll bump the charges up I'm hopeing to get 3,400 FPS out of my 26" tube. Does any one think I'm asking too much?

If you get there, according to quickload you would be over 70K PSI.

When I was shooting a .240 Weatherby several years ago I was shooting 95gr Bergers at 3400 from a 28" 1/10 twist barrel. I was using IMR 4831 powder and did go faster than 3400fps with several firings on the brass.

I wouldn't worry too much about what velocity I topped out at but would keep a close eye on pressure signs.

Try 52grns of H4350 powder and then work up to 53.5grns. I think with this powder and your 26" barrel, I am thinking you should be able to get to 3400fps without any problems.

I have owned two 6x284. My last 6x284 had a Krieger 30" 1-12 twist barrel. I was pushing the 95grn Berger at 3600fps with no problems. I was using 53grns of H4350, and I did not have any major presure problems. I was also using a custom action, so I was able to handle more presure. I was also pushing the 87grn V-Max at 3730fps. I ended up using the 87grn V-Max in that rifle because it was so accurate, and that barrel loved that bullet. Just watch your presures and work up to the higher loads.

If your not pushing the 6x284 a little bit, what is the point to having one. It is an awesome cartridge and it loves to be pushed. Have fun and let us know how it works.

One more thing, you should try VV-N550 powder. I never got to try it out of my 6x284, but I bet it would bump your velocities up without the extra presure. Read about this powder. It's more expensive, however, it's worth the extra money.

53.5grs of H4350 is max load for 87gr V-max.I use 56.1 grs behind a 70 gr Nosler BT for 3,900 fps. So I thought VV-550 burns hotter and is harder on BBLs? I just spent $25 bucks on a 1LB of Re#22 I'm going to see where that takes me.Some times in life one needs to make tough choices.

I tried the 95 Bergers a few years back in a 240 Wby 1-10 twist Douglas barrel and they would not stabilize. It had a factory spec freebore and it was about shot out so maybe that was the problem.
