Has anyone looked at the nosler reloading data they have on their site. I am looking at the 300 WSM 200 gr. bullet and they are saying 65.0 grns of RL-22 will give you 2871 fps. As i am looking at others load data for 300 WSM their velocity's dont seem to be near as high. Has anyone used this data to try loads? I am also planning on trying 208 gr. Amax in my 300 WSM and if i could get 2800 FPS out of it that would be awesome. If anyone has data for 208's that would be great as well

Actually, I have not been able to come close to Nosler's load data even on the 180 grain bullets. Simply too much powder, too slow of powder, and not enough space to get it into if the bullets are seated to fit inside a Remington or Browning magazine. Even with 165 grain accubonds, I am running 64 grains of IMR4007ssc at around 105% density and only getting 3050 fps. I tried Varget up to about 95% density and got 180's up to 2850 before the quick pressure curve flattened primers.

I honestly don't know how Nosler can even get close to the speeds or charge weights they claim unless they are loading for single shots. When I tried their pet loads, the bullets got pushed out of the case about .020" after a few hours. Perhaps they don't check these things?

I've had no problem getting good speed out of 270 and 7mm WSM's, but the 300 is a bit of a paradox. The expansion ratio involved with it and the heavier bullets puts it in the powder rates of 760, 414, and imr4007ssc being ideal but I will not use ball powders but 4007 is not near as dense. I wish the 300 WSM was either .100" longer or .100" shorter in the body. All in all, the 300 SAUM is actually a better designed case in my opinion because of the powders and weights that can be used, plus it allows for slightly shallower bullet intrusion in the case.

Have you shot any of their factory ammo through your chrony ?? are THEY getting the advertised fps they claim

No, that's the next step. Another fellow (or maybe two, I can't remember) on this site said he did and it was within 50 fps or so of the advertised speed. But I yanked a bullet and looked at the powder Federal is using and it is a ball powder. I'm sure it is a canister type blended ball powder we can't get as reloaders.

Crazy Marketing

All very interesting. If I buy another 300 mag it will be the good old 300 Win Mag. Had a 300 RUM that gun kicked so hard. Shot a black bear with it.Had to shoot him three times all three rnds were in the boiler room its just the bear didn't care he was being shot by 200 gr Accubonds at 3,200 FPs. Guide keep telling me to try and "shoot just behind his ear,I don't care what you shoot him with in the boiler room he'll run off and die and we'll have to chase after him" So my point is all that extra power, and recoil and cost of powder didn't seal the deal any quicker. Along with these problems with the 300 WSM !

Zsteinle,
Some 208Amax-300WSM data.
With 208 Amaxes I got an avg of 2840 with 60.5 gr. H4350 2870 with 61, Fed215GM, CCIBR2's run 15fps slower. At 62 things get sticky without much gain in speed. 29" 6 groove 10 twist. 40degF. Around 1moa accuracy.

210 Berger or SMK run about 10fps less than these speeds at the same charges. Accuracy Much better. All 0.010 into lands, Norma brass. But Win brass works well too.
I don't do magazines, or RL22 anymore, so can't help with any of that.

Shummy
