Mulies in Wyoming

I am looking on some info on Mulie hunting in a certain area of Wyoming (terrain, avg size of deer, weather, etc.). My hunting buddy and I are trying to plan a trip up there next season. We have a "friend of a friend" who is looking at giving us a pretty good deal on a private land hunt. We are still in "negotiations", but I believe it will be a pretty good deal. We are not going to have a guide, but we will get to stay in his bunkhouse and pretty much have free range of the ranch. The ranch is mainly a cattle operation and just started letting some guys hunt on a land access fee type of thing.

The area is around Jay Em, Wyoming, which is just south of Lusk. I believe it is unit 16 in Goshen County. Anyone know the area or anything about it? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

I need a good WALLHANGER out of my first mulie hunt!!

It's rugged terrain and a few flat open areas, with lots of draws. There is also a few river bottoms. I assume you will be hunting around October. Average high 66, average low 27.

Those sorts of images only make the ant-gun, anti-hunter crowd more convinced that you and I and other serious gun enthusiasts are all just a bunch of psychopaths and Rambo wannabes. I totally agree...............then, he changed it.............and I loved the second one just as much................laughing my *** off watching it for 10 mins too!!

Video clip aside I would like to get back to the WY Mule Deer.

I have not hunted that area that you mentioned but I have hunted other areas. I also have some friends at my gun club that hunt defferent areas of WY. Most of them try new areas every year just to make the trip fun. We have all been very successful in WY. There seems to be a healthy population in that state and it is amazing how big they are. When I first started to go out west I always wanted to stay away from any cattle because I thought I would not see any deer there. Well I was wrong. It does not seem to matter. Its now like they hang out together or anything but they are all within the same area.

I would think you find them there. One thing to do is ask for references. Who hunted there before? Give them a call and ask them lots of questions and see what they have to say.

Lusk.. yeah flat and open....

I can't say you'll fins a huge one there... but there are some good ones if you know where to look...

first find some water.... then find some green grass...

now get to the tops of any draws you may find....

Glass your *** off.. look under all the rocks, bushes, tress and shrubs... often you will find them bedded down there. They will blend very well..

If you have very little or no draws look for cover.... anything ...

before you approach it.. glass it from a distance.. at all angles... when you think you have it covered do it again....
