I have an rcbs fl die set for .308 and I don't know why I am unable to get die set to just neck size. That is what i do with other calibers, but have not been able to just size the neck on my .308. I usually end up having to partially size the case. I am planning on ordering a lee collet die though. Also I have herd that FL resizing is necessary after around 3 firings is this true?

A full length sizer is meant to size the case as well as the neck,if you want to neck size only then buy the proper die. That's the only way around your problem.
true, true, i was afraid someone would say that. i can neck size only but not down all the way to the shoulder. brass is fireformed to my chamber and don't see any problems with this many people with single shots only go about half way on theirs. My problem is a small one, but if i need to FL size after a couple of firings anyway then i can save a few bucks and jst do this. what do you guys think.

For what you want to do, you should get a Lee neck die and a separate body die. It produces very low runout cartridges.
If you work carefully you can set the lock ring on the body die to just barely move the shoulder. Then you use each die each time and you have the same cartridge to fire each time. The way you are thinking about going will produce a different cartridge every fourth time.

U have a good point their bob. I could probly go without the body die though. I think I read some where might a been 6mmbr, that it was nessecary to FL size after about 3 firings i don't know. my brass is on its second and i was planning on annealing and load a couple more times. this is the first .308 i ever loaded for, but have always been able to get up to 5 reloads for all my others(without annealing).
