280 ackley load data

After fire forming, I shoot 66.0 gr of RL-22 with a Sierra 140 pro hunter. One hole, but have not chono yet. Please work up to this, it is hot!

I use 60.5 grs RL22 with a 150 Nosler ballistic tip----one hole and chronos at 3095 fps. Starting to get on the warm side. Slight ejector marks on head of brass.

63 grs. of RL22 behind a 140 gr. Nosler gives me 3335fps and is hard to eject. Not quite the accuracy of the 150, but still under an inch.

Very hot indeed. My Remington 700 shows pressure signs and hard ejection at 62 grains same bullet...

62.5 grains of H4831sc with 140 grain Nosler Accubond bullet. 3050 fps. Super accurate 1/2" at 100 yds. Not as hot a load as RL 22 but with my experience RL 22 changes point of impact with changes in temp. I was getting 3200 fps with RL 22 but got tired of the inaccuracy in temperature changes.........59 grains of H4831sc is also very accurate for me and a very mild recoil at 2930 fps.

Forgot to mention I'm using Nosler brass. I like it so far.

63.0 grains of Retumbo , "Old" WLR primer , Nosler brass & 168 grain Berger Hunting VLD 3100+- out of a 26" 1/9" twist 3 groove barrel .091" 3 shot groups and very devastating on game !When I mention "Old" WLR primer I mean the chrome one not the new gold ones as they are softer than the better older ones! This particular cartridge will shoot most anything accurately just pick your weight bullet and start the process very handloading friendly:D.

I'm loading 61.5gr RL-22, 160gr Accubond, fed 210M primer, 2940fps. 24in, 1:10 twist barrel. I fired up to 64 grains and only had an occasional sticky eject. Just didn't want the chance of it happen during a hunt. this load is my most accurate to date but I'm still looking for that sub 1/2 inch load, although I'm close with this one. I could not stabilize the 168gr VLD in this rifle.

I have a 1:10 twist, 26" bbl. and I am getting great groups with the 168VLD. I don't know if the extra 2" would make a difference but it's worth a try.

On another note. I was hunting in negative temperatures over the weekend with my .280AI. I had several opportunities to take deer at all kinds of ranges, and I did kill three, but not before hitting dirt in front of several deer with the correct dope dialed in for the range I was shooting at. RL22 must lose a lot of it's power in extreme cold and I think I'm going to get away from it because of my experience.
