Longrange scope

I am new to longrange shooting.I have shot out to 300 yards.I am looking at building a gun in either a 7mm or a 300 win mag.What would be the best scope for hunting and shooting out to 1000 yrds? Thanks

The BEST would be either a Nightforce, Schmidt & Bender, U.S. Optics, or perhaps even a Leupy. Look to spend $1-3000 for the BEST.

I just got a NXS 5-22 x 56 NIGHTFORCE.

At the end of the day it just depends on your budget and what you expect the scope do for you ?

I personally like the extra magnification the 22 gives over the 15 X ?? IMO

I'm into long range varmint hunting and here is what I've come up with. There is a place called Kenton Industries. They make target turrets made up in yardage instead of MOA. It's $79 for one made up for your load, velocity, and bullet. Jesse had one made that is good out to 1300 yards for his Leupold 8x25 LR scope. Their web site is Kenton Industries They have several different formats for several differend scopes.

I have several scopes that I use for long range shooting. I've had two Nightforce scopes. The first one had problems and had it replaced. The second one I've had problems with and it has been back to the shop twice. I've had problems with it holding zero on my 300 Win Mag so it now rides on my 6.5/06. I still don't have any faith in it. The glass is very clear but I get smaller groups when I mount my Tasco Custom shop scope on the 300 mag. I have three Leupold VX-III's and they work great. No complaints. The scopes that are impressing me the most right now are the Millett Models # 30735 through 30739. Also their TRS-1. I've had such good luck with the Millett # 30735 that it now rides atop of my 338 Lapua Mag instead of my Leupold Vari-x III. Great scopes. Their TRS-1 is another great scope. Don't let the price fool you. Check out Midway USA, MidwayUSA - Shooting Supplies, Reloading, Gun Parts, Ammunition, Rifle Scopes & Airguns Look for Millett scopes, TRS-1 and all the reviews are 5 star. Also they're also probably all sold out. The TRS-1 are sold out as fast as they come in. I've tested them against Nightforce, Leupold, Shepard, Swarovski, Super Sniper, Tasco Custom Shop, and it help its own against them all for holding zero.

I would think to have a great long range scope it should have parallax adjustment. Am I correct? Does Lightforce have this?

Do the Vari-X III's have parallax adjustment?

If you go with the Nightforce and use MOA turrets, use the NP-R1 reticle. I can only speak from my experience, but I have never seen a Tasco that held a candle in the wind to a Nightforce. Nightforce are rugged scopes that track consistently. I have ran the turrets up and down, left and right and it always comes back to zero. There may be better purchases per the amount of money spent, but Nightforce is a solid piece of glass. Also look into USO. I have been real happy with the scope that I have from them, but you are going to pay more for it than the Nightforce.

Most scopes of 12X and higher on the top end have parallax adjustments.

I think it's an important addition to a long range scope.........Usually won't buy one without it.
