Alright, I'm looking for something that anyone has used in a RUM. I find a lot of coyotes and wolves during deer/elk/moose season, and need a load for them other than my 168gr TSX's. Tried 165gr Nosler BT's over H1000, and couldn't get them to shoot under 3".

Any suggestions?

A guy I know shot the 125gr Balistic Tips and LOVED them. But he also said they were the main cause of shooting his barrel out. I can get with him and get his load if you need me to.
Question...why not just use your hunting load? "A lot of wolves and coyotes" is still probably relatively few shots compared to load development, etc. If it is a cost thing, TSX's aren't cheap but when you consider the added cost of load development it starts to level out. BUT, if you want to develope another load for your gun, GO FOR IT.

Good luck,

you dont have to shoot them at 4000fps. the 125's at 3200 or so will still have far more poop than a coyote can handle. theyll be alot more fun to shoot and easier on the nice wolf pelt too

When I shoot varmints with my hunting rifle I use the same bullet as I would use for Deer or Elk.. Learn one load and get good with it and no worries... I killed a Bobcat today one shot and it DRT..Load 180 TSX out of my 300 Win Mag. Works on every thing, big, little, short or tall it kills them all...

another nod for the one load. Life's too complicated to worry about the ballistics of two different loads.

Besides, you can consider the varmint as natures way of providing a live fire excersize.

Well, mostly its an availability problem. The 168's can be a difficult thing to get my hands on in Northern BC, when I want them.

Noslers and Sierra's etc are pretty easy to come by up here though.

And generally speaking I only carry around 20 rounds give or take of the TSX's when I head out for a weekend, and like to hang on to them. I'm not really partial to banging out 3 or 4 or 8 of them at a coyote at 700yards just for because. Noslers or what have you though, thats a different ball game.

Live fire exercise excise....I like it. And I do.

Ok, the real reason is that I'm finding that with the 168 TSX I'm getting resonable expansion, shoulder shots or ribs don't seem to make a huge difference, exit wounds are around 2 inches....

HOWEVER, the one that I shot with a 165 Nosler was chopped in half. Literally. Mind you it was only about 90 yards...I'm looking for that sort of expansion at 300+...

(I REAAAALLLLLY hate coyotes. Wolves get shot with whatever is handy.)

Thanks for all the posts so far guys, I'm appreciatingit no end. And it gives me a place to start.

I've killed many a Coyote and a few Wolves with my 300 RUM using what was in the chamber and intended for big stuff. The 200 AB.

I would have had to pass on a few if I had to unload and reload with a different bullet.

I pretty much have my corrections memorized for that rifle with my go to Big Game load, why worry about two charts and confuse the issue.
