Anyone planning to get one of the new Weatherby 6.5 RPM? I'm hoping to get one from the first shipment of Mountain Ti. I hope it actually weighs 4.9 pounds like they say.
I bet they will in a year or two. They are going to sell as many $2500-$3500 rifles as they can first thoIf they ever offer it in the Vanguard, I'm all in.
Feel it's a big mistake on Weatherby's part not to.

The 6.5 RPM provides 125fps more than a .264WM can with 140g AccuBond bullets. This according to Weatherby and Nosler ammo data. Weatherby claims 3225fps with a 127g Barnes bullet, which beats my 6.5-06AI with 130g Swift Scirocco II bullet by a whopping 64fps. It also beats Hodgdon's fastest .264WM/129g load by 54fps. (Yawn)
All you need to do is purchase an expensive rifle and buy ammo that will likely never be common or cheap.
I have a Savage 111 7mm RM with rusty barrel. Had planned to make it a 6.5PRC but the more i think about it, the more likely that it will become a .264WM instead as a) that is a more fool-proof conversion, and b) it will mimic my 6.5-06AI with a bit extra velocity.
While I'm sure WBY will sell a few rifles chambered for the 6.5RPM, I think the 6.5PRC will spank it soundly in terms of sales.

Hornady does indeed have better marketing they turned the 6.5 creedmoor into the hottest thing,
they also need to release the PRC in cheaper rifles- namely tikka most of the current factory offerings are in the price range of a weatherby rifle so moot there.
Weatherby has never sought to be everyman's rifle, and as this is a long range hunting forum I'd bet folks aren't terribly concerned with ammo availability as they will reload-
but for people that appreciate their rifles this new cartridge is a welcome addition to a lineup of 70 year old cartridges. Also, with the move to wyoming their rifles and ammo are getting much more affordable and as discussed ad nauseam on the other rpm threads this cartridge isnt intended to balistically best any cartridge but provide an accurate light package for their smaller 6 lug action.
